“An interesting unit with a lot of fascinating resources to catch the students interest. I ended up using it with my top reading group as the lower ability students felt quite overwhelmed with the amount of info available to them.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The kit has personalised stories that would have taken a good deal of time so I appreciate that School Kit has done this for us to be able to share with our aakonga. I have and would use this and similar models in the future.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I was quite confident in delivering the content prior to the kit. However, this sort of kaupapa is a passion project that I will always continue to build and grow.

“I would gladly endorse and recommend the Aotearoa NZ Histories School Kit for any kaiako. If you had not had the chance, grab one or jump inline. At the very start it took my aakonga a little longer to figure out the simple password, be prepared for many voices at the same time if your aakonga did not hear that instruction. The replica artefacts, postcards along with the detailed historical information shows the care, time and effort School Kits. have put into their products. I do like to keep everything organised and so I would have loved to have a little Index Card or Teacher Cheat Sheet with the answers as to which part matched up with each story, etc. One piece was missing from our kit but I was unaware, happy to say the team followed up on this as well. How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I loved the activity where the tamariki drew the route of Whina Coopers hikoi. We expanded on this and also included other historical events that have happened in Te Ika a Maui.

As an inquiry based school, it is vital that the students can connect with their inquiries from a personal point of view. By making connects with their community and its' history they have greater buy in.

Wanted to do more but timetable constraints stopped some progress. I felt the students made a start and wanted to know more.
