How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? An example of us doing this was when we looked at the memorial at the school for the soliders in Dunedin. We then found a memorial stone at our own kura and it lead us to explore the stories for the people on that memorial. This made it really meaningful

“I loved this kit. The visuals of different places in Aotearoa were awesome. I loved the concept that everything has a history/whakapapa and the pepeha were great. We know our school pepeha and our area but it's cool for the students to realise the pepeha were a clues leading you to the place where that thing happened and also linking to the people of that land.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It took a bit of navigation - the website, the squad and the kit were aligned, but a bit of streamlining could have helped. The children are year 7, and found some of the readings quite long and a few struggles to complete.

We are fortunate to already have positive dialogic relationships with mana whenua. This kit has helped to explor and expand how we can share stories and learn togehter.

“This kit includes a vast range of activities that support the new Aotearoa NZ Histories Curriculum. There is a lot of higher order thinking required, so with young students it works best to work together as a class, with teacher support. The kit allows you to investigate at your own pace and level, and interact with events in history that many students would not have come across before.”
