How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I think we do a pretty good job of local history in Waitara, however, this method of engagement is awesome and really adds to the classroom and wider experience.

“The collateral was excellent and engaging for my year 5/6 students. They are just starting with wider NZ history. We cover our local history quite well but this allows links to wider society.”

“The children absolutely loved it! It opened so many doors. It took a wee while to get the ball rolling, but once they got onto what they needed to do it was great. I also discovered that there are many children in my class that love learning about ANZH and have a real strength in this area.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I have enjoyed using the resource for myself - This can't do this year but will plan for our team to look at it next year.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I was able to inform myself beforehand and consider how to teach it in a non biased way (because it was very easy to). The Understand, Know and Do with corresponding numbers made the focus clear.

“My students and I love this kit! We did two places for Term 3. One was a place that I come from - the Hokianga - Tupuna. I learnt so much from these articles and feel way more informed. The other place was Bastion Point -Ahi Ka - Some of my students took their families to the memorial for Michael Savage and shared what we discussed in class. I look forward to introducing more stories next year.”

As mentioned above, we hope to link into the concept of this story within our own community, which is developing townhouses rapidly. It is how we will link the past to the present, and history elsewhere to current events here.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Knowing that we have a reliable, detailed resource that explores more than the 'big stories' is awesome. We will continue to link this resource into future units, so I hope that the websites will continue to exist.
