“Loved the cool, interesting things that came with the kit. It got the kids really interested in it all. I loved the way we had heaps of different stories to discover all around NZ. The website was great and easy to navigate. The students were engaged with the learning and it had different reqding levels for the students. This made it easy for us teachers to allocate work at the right level, according to their literacy levels. There was a heavy literacy component so we linked our learning to reading.”

“This sparked great discussions in my students and had them thinking about their local history. Students loved having something to hold as well as looking at images online. It was fantastic to have a range of stories and range of voices for explore.”

“I found the kit interesting from an adults perspective as I was able to appreciate the information on a deeper level than the students. They students were perhaps a bit young for it, but still enjoyed aspects. We didn't use the student website much as they are not very tech-savvy!”

“Fantastic pack of a wide variety of 'interest objects' to engage students in their learning. Very high quality of resources with something for all levels. Excellent support from online research information. My Y5&6 students were motivated to continue with their own research and extend their learning. I would highly recommend this Kit for anyone wanting to teach Aotearoa History.”

“Spectacular resource, so many treasures to check out and wonder about. The conversations were amazing to listen to. We are still going - this is definitely more than a terms worth. It has given us more ideas of what to look at when selecting stories or significant places in our local area. It allowed the students to guide the inquiry when asking questions about the different items.

“The kit has some well-curated items from Aotearoa's past. The students enjoyed getting 'hands-on' with these. The post cards generated interesting discussions about our significant places and the connections we make with these places. The structure of my year level's inquiry in my school meant that after the initial 'tuning in' period, we did not get to use the kit as much as I had hoped. I plan on reusing these great resources in the future.”
