How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We mostly look at local history in our courses. Unfortunately the resources provided do not cover our local area.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? This was great to know as it is not alway easy to access this knowledge for yourself. It is also really important to have an iwi perspective on our local history.

“Such a cool visual home screen interface, and I loved the thematic/place-based arrangement of resources. Feedback from students was that the pages that show up (after answering the pepeha) felt visually overwhelming, making it difficult for them to decide where to go (or feeling like there was too much to do that they were reluctant to start). I wonder what it could look like if the different scaffolded routes went to new pages? I didn't use this resource with the whole class but rather shared parts with different Year 10 studenst as extension opportunities; personal/family things that came up for me prevented a whole-class roll-out.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Definitely - we have used a similar model to explore our local curriculum and traced the stories back to early settlers in our area. The kids loved finding out about the families that had local streets and roads named after them.

“I incorporated this kit as part of my reading programme with a self-led group of learners. What an awesome kit! The kids loved the vintage look of the resources and were eager to start learning about the underlying stories. The students were so engaged and wanted to further explore other happenings from the places they read about and the era that they took part. I would definitely recommend this kit as it was well put together and fostered real interest to engage the learners..”
