How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? Used some of the components in conjunction with other resources. Such as Harold the giraffe and bucket filling

“This school kit had some very good messages and lessons within. The students especially loved the play lunch project. The poster and the interactive things were enjoyable too. As the teacher, in the beginning I found it difficult to understand the kit as I wasn't quite sure where to start but once I figured out how it was set up I could start using some of the activities. I did find some activities fell into the ";too hard basket"; eg the singing as it was a lot harder than we originally thought. Some aspects also seemed a bit pointless and just ended up confusing me, e.g. the tokens and the Thing + That + For activity. I couldn't link them very clearly to the topic of respectful relationships.”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? Activities get children thinking- children feel good when doing things for others.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? Great way to focus on noticing what/how others are feeling which was a neccesity after lockdown with younger students . After the unit is complete, it's great to be able to refer back to videos/tasks activities to refocus when the need arises.

“I thought the respect kit was very relevant. The kit had many resources that engaged the learners in terms of the sticker chart and the battery charger. My students really enjoyed trying to collect a rainbow of colours on their sticker chart. The large picture provided ideas for discussion.”

The battery idea didn’t really fit in with my class and they didn’t real catch onto the concept. While the intentions of the kit were good, it didn’t quite work for my class.

“the resource tied in really well with our K.O.S programme that we did prior. Extending on prior knowledge of extending and maintaining respectful, positive relationships. Using the strategies in the kit to enhance readiness for learning (charging class battery) has been amazing and the tamariki have really enjoyed it. Overall, the tamariki continue to speak or remind each other how to be and what it looks like to show mana-aki-tanga, rangatiratanga, me awhinatanga.”
