In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? There were some real 'light bulb' moments. You could literally see on the face of some students that they saw the bigger picture of their choices. A number verbally told us that they have regrets now about past posts online.

“This kit was really timely for our students!!!! Due to the concerns we have had with some students online behaviour, we really felt this was an important addition to our programme. Thge kit was simple and easy to follow. It really made our students this and reflect on their choices and the future implications. Well worth teaching!!!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I had assumed that my students were not tech savvy, but majority surprised me but some of the safety strategies they had in place already.

“My class was really engaged during the sessions. It was really meaningful. Some great ideas came up around the Ring, e.g. invisible people feel powerful, confident and they can pay people back for wrong they’ve done.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The range of experiences that students have been engaged with online.

“The content of this kit was fantastic. The discussions that came out of the offline/online activity were rich and created interesting teaching opportunities. For me as a teacher it highlights potential gaps in our teaching around digital safety and citizenship. I did find aspects of the activities difficult to understand in terms of delivery and how to apply them in a lesson. However this was only a minor barrier.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I learnt that children do not understand the power of YouTube and the fact that it is a social network. We talked about the amount of Youtube they were watching and the kinds of videos they were consuming.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The children were reasonably comfortable talking about situations they had been in.

“This kit was a welcome unit of learning for my Year 5/6 class. We had been having some problems with digital citizenship in the class so it was very timely. The children particularly enjoyed the activity where they had to work out the feeling of the characters on the scenario cards. There were a lot of excellent discussions and respectful disagreements happening! I also liked the box and marbles which allowed me to gather data in a non-intrusive way. Thank you for your hard work again!”

“The content and learning for students was great, however it was often hard to understand what each piece in the school kit was designed for as it was not clearly explained or organized within the kits and lessons. Some clear lesson plans or guides would be helpful as the content, activities and games we did use were fantastic.”
