In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I was made aware of how many students I had in my class using social media platforms. I also realised how uninformed these students were of the risks and issues that they could face when socially online.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I have a philosophy of honesty and believe it is important that I follow this for all aspects of classroom learning, no matter how difficult. The kit supported me to seek guidance on the more complex situations from outside agencies.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? A number of my students were having emotional and social issues ( on and off line) but had limited skills to handle these effectively.

“The kit has very valuable teaching and learning resources in it. I will be continuing to use aspects of the kit in 2021 to support digital safety for next year’s class.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I was surprised at the level of openness of my students and how honest some of them were in comparison to my expectations I was pleasantly surprised too at how willing they were to own their own mistakes

“This kit had lots of variety of activities for the students to carry out and covered a range of situations as always I liked that you could order some of it the way you wanted and suited your students”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Something I found interesting was the way my students related to the scenarios. I assumed that most of them knew how to respond. Some students chose to be empathetic but others chose revenge and anger.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I have taught more mature content before however, I felt that some of of the cards were a little too out of reach for our students.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? At one point I used the green sheet and the scenario cards along with the feeling cards. I just stood back and watched students take the lead and share their opinions. Others were seeking clarification by asking questions until a final feeling was reached

“This has been another eye opening kit. It promoted a lot of discussion in and amongst students. It also showed me that I had assumptions about the things my students knew.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Learning experiences were on point and inline with the contexts and needs of our tamariki. So much learning for all of us. Tamariki feeling empowered to share the learning and to have their voices heard on a topic that is their / our world.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit This kit reminded me of when I used to deliver the Keeping Ourselves Safe unit. I was fine with delivering the more mature content, however, I was concerned that I may have introduced topics to innocent tamariki who's parents might have wanted to discuss

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Not surprising as we have built a safe learning environment - tamariki and their willingness to be honest with each other.

“My favourite most useful part of the kit I found was choosing That’s Out of Line cards that were appropriate to the age of our tamariki, the types of conversations I overheard in the classroom, our school’s values and the types of issues our tamariki are facing.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? They didn't really. We had already had many discussions throughout the year about many of the issues, especially in our sessions with John Parsons

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I had no issue with teaching these concepts. The class I currently have are open minded and happy to discuss most things, making ti easier for me. I also think that the concepts, perceptions and ideas are really important so it's all about how you deliver

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? That even though they can give you all the right answers and knew that some of the things they were doing were wrong, they weren't in any hurry to change because their parents had said it was ok.

“The concepts in this kit and the potential for making a great difference to the children was fabulous. However I had a lot of difficulty understanding some of the lessons and activities. I found that I had to search the Facebook page often to see how other teacher's had completed an activity before I felt I understood what to do. Clearer instructions would be good.”

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I struggled with the Teacher Lesson plan - it did not always help with the flow of the lessons - and in some cases I got rather confused by your instructions. I found other teachers uploading to the facebook page with what they did helped more.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I feel the student felt empathy but they struggle to transfer this independently.

“It was a good Kit to get the students thinking outside the four walls of the classroom and into the virtual realm. They now understand the impact of their behavior online. I feel that I would need to review this with them as over time they forget ( I think because the online world is hidden from their view.”
