In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? A lot of the boys seem to have been exposed to things and have had interesting conversations. They seem to think everything is just funny.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Being annoying online was seen as fun and cool. Whereas when we took that into a offline context, they realised that it wouldn’t be something they do.

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Students gained a better understanding about their online use and how they actions online impact others. They realised this impact has the same effect as if offline. They were able to discuss online and offline boundaries.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit As I have been a Year 7 &; 8 teacher where difficult topics regularly cropped up, I was comfortable talking to my Year 5 &; 6's. However, I was not sure how much was appropriate for the younger group and how to carefully discuss these issues.

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Blown away by how many students had been made to feel uncomfortable, but also impressed with the coping skills that they shared and discussed.

“A kit that we will be revisiting for our new class next year, as it links so well with our Digital Citizenship/BYOD focus in the first month. Loved the way you focused on some philosophical questions that got kids thinking and talking .”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Students realised that communication via text or message could be misinterpreted and lead to situations that were uncomfortable. We also spoke about your online bubble (from John Parsons) and how we needed to be aware of exactly who can see what.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The number of students that have been bullied! It really was shocking!! Also the lack of awareness some parents have in terms of what their own child is 'saying' in messages or texts. The language us shocking!

“For my Year 7 students this was a fantastic opportunity to check in with them and their online behaviour. I had excellent buy in from parents too and feel that this School Kit was a way to open up discussions. Kia ora!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I thought in this day and age that the majority of them would be very competent with technology but there was a number who didn't have much experience at all.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Like I said above I had assumed that most of the kids would be much more familiar with technology.

“It was a really great kit that promoted a shift in the language used in my class especially around boundaries. It was very relevant as my class just got a set of Chromebooks to use and of course all of the online learning we have been doing this year. I had a good mix of tech-savvy kids and less confident kids in my class and this kit work well across the range.”
