In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I realised that online friendships were an issue for my class - playing online games with each other and people they didn't know, being left out of the group, etc.

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? They didn't change - I had a good grasp of what was going on with my students

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I struggled with the Teacher Lesson plan - it did not always help with the flow of the lessons - and in some cases I got rather confused by your instructions. I found other teachers uploading to the facebook page with what they did helped more.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I feel the student felt empathy but they struggle to transfer this independently.

“It was a good Kit to get the students thinking outside the four walls of the classroom and into the virtual realm. They now understand the impact of their behavior online. I feel that I would need to review this with them as over time they forget ( I think because the online world is hidden from their view.”

“The kit covers the areas need in a great way to keep students safe online. It meshed into the program we already doing really well. I highly recommend this kit.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? The students were more worried about offline issues than online ones and thought they were in more control online. There was, therefore, more need to focus on online.

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I thought that my kids were quite skilled and knowledgeable about being safe online but with further discussion about this through this kit it became obvious that they were less informed then what I thought. They were able to make more informed decisions

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Same of their initial thoughts and how naive about the world that they live in. It scared me on how they would react in a serious situation and just act like it wasn't a big deal when it should have been. through this kit this definitely changed and were

“This was extremely interesting and engaging with my tamariki. With Year 7&;8's this was highly important. We had Life Education during this term as well and was a great lead on towards the topics we were talking about. Especially now in this day and age, children need to have a better understanding of the world around them not just bubble wrapping them till they get to a situation like these. The activities were engaging and really got the kids thinking about what they do and the impacts this could have on themselves and others around them.”

Students realised that communication via text or message could be misinterpreted and lead to situations that were uncomfortable. We also spoke about your online bubble (from John Parsons) and how we needed to be aware of exactly who can see what.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The number of students that have been bullied! It really was shocking!! Also the lack of awareness some parents have in terms of what their own child is 'saying' in messages or texts. The language us shocking!

“For my Year 7 students this was a fantastic opportunity to check in with them and their online behaviour. I had excellent buy in from parents too and feel that this School Kit was a way to open up discussions. Kia ora!”
