“This was a great kit and very timely as we had had a number of issues with regards to incitement, and online harassment which were impacting on in-class relationships and group dynamics. It generated a lot of dicussion.”

“Lessons were well structured within the overall programme allowing students to engage with the topic in small manageable bits. They were given appropriate strategies to discern what was in line and what was out of line, and what to do when they found themselves in difficult situations.”

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I was comfortable in that I tailored it to the age level of my class (Year 5/6) and I know my children and their backgrounds well.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How switched on the class was about different issues and about how accepting they were. It was great to hear about different parental conversations which had happened at home.

“My class loved the scenario activities and I thought it was brilliant how well planned it all was - it was varied which kept the children engaged!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? N/A We had been doing some learning around digital safety before the kit, so I feel that my perceptions about where my students were did not change once we started the kit.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I was comfortable approaching the more mature content as students really need to know how to protect themselves in today's day and age. I did however leave out some of the most mature content as my students are year 5/6.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The maturity that came out of my students was pleasing to see. Their willingness to talk openly and learn together was wonderful. There was almost no silliness as the students understood that what we were learning about was so relevant and contextual for

“I really enjoyed this school kit. We had been having some social media issues at school in 3rd term so the timing of this kit was amazing. The content was relevant and challenging for the students, who engaged well with it. We especially enjoyed the section on the ring of Gyges and the challenging of current perceptions about why we behave the way we do.”

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit My comfort level was the same as teaching Sexuality and that was fine. Having discussions about porn was a new experience and had to prepare before hand about what I would and wouldn't talk about.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How open they were to talk about what has happened to them online.

“This kit was a good way to talk about those things that are becoming quite common with young kids nowadays and their digital footprint. The activities and resources showed the students examples of what has happened in the real world in a non threating way. However, the porn section was quite confronting and some students were withdrawn from the talks.”
