What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? They had no ideas about the R18 (or that the R means restricted to a certain age) as they ignore this and just do what they like.

“Thank you for putting this kit together. The resources were relevant to the students lives and they were able to relate to all of it, as well as learn from it.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Lots of them hadn't seen things online that were 'issues' but most had heard about certain things. In general I noted that children were doing 'innocent/silly' things. Having scenarios that were based on real life situations, was a good wake up call for t

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit Sometimes I do find the teacher notes quite confusing. I find you have to read over them many times and wonder if they could be more succinct. It might just be me!!

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I was surprised at the 'innocence' of some students, but pleased as well

“The children really enjoyed talking about this topic and the activities to go with it. There were some challenges for all who participated, especially in their critical thinking about their own lives! Children loved the scenarios - the yellow cards, had robust discussions and enjoyed feeding back and voting on the best decisions. Personally I enjoyed discussing bigger picture and keeping calm when we considered our options for solving problems. I think this is a vital topic and should be taught every year to our tamariki. I taught it after doing pubertal change so it was perfect!”

What was surprising was how many students didn't agree with visibility being a good enough motivator, however, were also unable to

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How much they struggled with the philosophical thinking

“The 'Wise Response' and 'That's Out of Line' cards were great for getting discussion going around different points of view, as well as emotions. However, my class really struggled with thinking philosophically and thinking in a different way to ";just what I'd do";. I took some time digging in, but did not see any real gains from this. They were also confused further by the TED-Ed talks, again due to the complex ideas and language.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I realised how out of touch some of the parents were with their child's actions and activities online (despite thinking they were on top of things). Exposure to strangers asking for details and inappropriate content was higher than I thought it would be.
