My class loved this kit. We live along the Waikato river, so had an amazing opportunity to find out about our local place while we were planning our clean up. Kids were pretty shocked to learn that our local rubbish could easily get the the sea. Unfortunately our full scale clean up got cancelled due to lockdown, but across our team of 130 kids - we managed to stagger a smaller scale local clean up over a number of weeks. This continues to be a regular part of our school actions to enhance our local environment and support our community.

The class thoroughly enjoyed completing this kit. From the beginning to the end, the videos and lessons were engaging and hooked the students into wanting to help clean up significant areas that lead out to our local waterways. We have a beach and a river close to the school with a marine reserve so this was a relevant issue for the class. Students were able to gain greater insight into the importance of keeping the waterways clean.

We were unable to start using this resource until Term 3, which was then interrupted by lockdown, so we had to improvise and use this resource slightly differently. Some of the children were issued the gloves and a bag, in their 'hard packs' which were made up for home learning. The students who had either already noted that they had found litter while on their walks during lockdown, or the students who lived near the waterways we were focusing on in this unit, were issued the cleaning kits. They then shared what they had picked up, during our scheduled zoom meetings with the whole class.
