What was the latitude and longitude of your clean up? (from Sea Cleaners poster) Didn't complete
What was your cleanup location type? School, Other
Which of the following types did your class collect? Plastic Bag, Food Wrappers, Tin Cans
What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? Food packets because we don't eat anywhere near where they were found and that got the kids thinking about how rubbish doesn't just "disappear"
This school kit has been an amazing centre resource for our pollution focus for term 4. The gloves act as a great engagement tool for the kids. This resource was used along SPCA books that focused on pollution of our waterways and the protection of our wildlife. We talked about being kaitiaki of our environment and doing what we can do to minimise rubbish. We dont have many waterways that are close by so we looked at the street drains that are often filled with rubbish and affect our water systems as a result.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Completing this from home, sorry. Haven't been able to collect student voice.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The eco-friendly gloves and strong paper bags were great - meant we were practicing what we were preaching, by not using plastic for the clean up. Plus the gloves protected the children's hands and they took them home to wash and re-use for gardening and more litter picking.
How many bags of rubbish did your class collect? We filled multiple bags of rubbish. In total, our syndicate of 99 students collected 750 pieces of rubbish from our local beach.
How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability? This kit has raised awareness of the need to dispose of rubbish responsibly, and even more than that, to reduce consumption of goods that contain rubbish. The children have since come to tell me that they've been picking up litter at lunchtimes to keep our playgrounds clean and to stop rubbish from flying into our beautiful, natural environment.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? It's brought about awareness on the impact we have on planet Earth.

What was the latitude and longitude of your clean up? (from Sea Cleaners poster) Raumati South Beach
What was your cleanup location type? Beach
Which of the following types did your class collect? Plastic Bag, Plastic Bottles, Plastic Cups, Food Wrappers, Straws, Tyres, Household Waste, Tin Cans, Toys
What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? We found a number of halloween sweet wrappers, as we conducted the beach clean up a few days after 31 October.
We used the Sea Cleaners 23 kit as part of our inquiry, 'Guardians of Zealandia'. The topic explored the big themes of our living world - life processes, ecology, evolution and biodiversity. We looked at the impact that humans can have, both positive and negative, on our natural world and each other. The Sea Cleaners kit fitted perfectly into this inquiry. We went as a syndicate down to our local beach and used the equipment to clean the surrounding area. 750 pieces of rubbish were collected in total. We were very grateful to have the gloves and bags to safely pick up and dispose of the rubbish. The online resources have also been marvellous too.

Which of the following types did your class collect? Plastic Bag, Plastic Bottles, Plastic Cups, Food Wrappers, Straws, Household Waste, Tin Cans, Toys
What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? the maps off the boat
We loved it, the pack arrived right at the time of our beach trip and this was right after the storm which in the bay we were visiting had 4 boats sink and wash up all over the beach. We cleaned the beach up and although a lot of it we wouldn't stick on the posters we managed to fill all our bags and 7 black bags in just 2 hours. The gloves are amazing the kids felt their hands were safe and comfortable at all times. We decided to clean and reuse the gloves and posts to look at what could go down our drains if the school didn't pick up the mess. This meant we completed the posters using school rubbish in the playground and looked at what the impact could be.

The sea cleaners kit was a great way for my tamariki to get involved with cleaning up the rivers that lead to the sea. our inquiry last term was about the impact humans have on our harbours. this started with finding what lives in our drains and the impact rubbish has on their natural habitat.
