Olivia: I enjoyed learning about how to be a kaitiaki and the sea cleaners kit was cool because we got our own set of gloves to keep us safe when we did the cleaning. Zoe: I liked learning about the water-systems and how we made our water-system to understand how rubbish can end up in the ocean.

How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability?
They are really aware of pollution and are always pointing it out and picking it up. They also take quite pride in sharing with their whanau and helping keep our school rubbish free.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
The affects of pollution in the ocean and that we need to take action to prevent it from happening.

What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why?
A child's full nappy because the tamariki were so shocked that someone had left that at the beach. They were all quite disgusted and couldn't believe someone would do that which lead to a great discussion around why we see household rubbish in public.
