How did students approach the car modification challenge, and what innovative solutions did they come up with? We had some very "interesting" modifications take place, although not sure they were overly successful! Cars were stripped right back to bare minimum, cars were joined together to make limos, one car ended up with 3 solar panels.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Kids really enjoyed it, was challenging but fun. Parents were amazed that all of the equipment was provided for free - what a great thing!

“What a fabulous experience for our tamariki. They had a great time following the instructions, watching the helpful video hints and testing out their cars. There was great collaboration, discussions and problem solving to be had. Naturally there was lots of tweaking, retrialling and just a few adaptations along the way. The processes involved and the incidential learning along the way was phenomenial. So nice to have such hands on, practical and fun learning right at our fingertips.”

“Our solar cars experience this term has been a great learning experience for the children. When building the cars we had to manage being in. The learning put, solving problems, team work, having success, having difficulties, sharing etc. we had a wonderful time learning about them and how they work. We followed this by waiting and waiting for a sunny day to race them.”

How did students approach the car modification challenge, and what innovative solutions did they come up with? We only had a few modifications as not everyone got to that part and our group of 38 Y6 learners had to work in pairs to ensure everyone had a car

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Everyone loved the involvement in building their cars and then the race challenge at the end.

“We used the Solar powered cars to link in with our learning about renewable and non-renewable energy units we did through WP. This was great as my learners already had the background regarding how solar energy worked and how it was created. We focused on the wiring and why the heatshrinkwrapping was necessary when connecting wires. We extended our learning about how the gears work and how they make wheels rotate. We found it interesting having all cars wired red to red and black to black yet one car only moved in rotation and another in reverse.”
