“We are a year 5 class and we teamed up with a year 2/3 class. We did alot of how to solve clues work beforehand. Children still needed alot of help on the day as clues were quite hard for them to solve and when they were too hard the children lost interest. So there was alot of teacher input and we had an adult between two or three groups. Children did really enjoy it and are still talking about it.”
“What a great idea for the end of the year! While some of the teacher notes were a little tricky to get my head around and some of the more impulsive kids got out of sequence or took other groups clues, overall it was heaps of fun and I'd love to do the same type of thing again. It highlighted the importance of critical thinking,

“Wow! What a great school kit... the best we have used so far! The kids were engaged from the get go. Loved the team work and collaboration needed and it managed to enable kids to step out of their comfort zone with one another. Was great to see them all using their problem solving skills. Our 'Purple Monkey' also had a great time with the set up the whole scenario the day before as well as being found the next day. Although there was quite a lot of preparation needed, it was definitely worth our time and energy. It took our 3 classes, which we mixed in ability groups approximately 2 hours to solve. The highlight was the lazer beam maze for many of the kids. Overall, it was a great kit for this time of year. The kids as well as us, thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.”

THank you so much for all the thought and organisation that went into this kit. My class loved it and were keen to do more! It took a while to get my head around it and you needed to be organised with the preparation and set up. I love the way everything had been thought of and was included in the kit eg the yellow tape to go across the classroom door - this added to the excitement and suspense for this activity.
I also enjoyed the fact that another staff member(in our case our secretary) was involved which came it a more whole school feel.
The differentiation of the tasks was also very helpful in a composite class. I enjoyed the fact that it was a STEAM kit so a good chance for those children that excel in this area to shine.

“Our Y4 students were keen an engaged in these tasks and continue to talk about how much they enjoyed the day. One task they found challenging was finding the code in the numbers card and needed a few more clues to work it out. Next time I would recruit a few more helping hands to help rove and support teams where needed. Overall the day was a great success.”
“This was an awesome kit for the tamariki to work through. The various STEAM activities that the tamariki had to work through were great. The range of levelled activities ensured that all tamariki were fully engaged with the activities. The tamariki enjoyed the whole concept and adding 'spy' music added to the fun element of the task. The instructions were very clear and the kit was well resourced. Thanks to everyone who was involved with creating such a fabulous kit. The added bonus our Purple Monkey decided to create a further follow up activity.”
