Thank you so much for this kit, the students were all very excited and engaged! With this kit we were able to link it to our learning of waste free through enviro schools and completed a rubbish clean up around our community. All students were able to participate and use their strengths with the roles they received, it was great that they had to think about their strengths and why they would be best for the job they wanted. The students were all proud of themselves!

The SVA kit tied in nicely with our universal concept of Change. For our class social action the students decided to create a positive change for others. After researching local charities and the positive changes these organisations brought about in our community my class voted to donate to the SPCA and Love Soup-an organisation which provides free meals for the homeless. We then set about creating Christmas crafts to sell to raise money for both these charities. This was a powerful way for my students to give back and they were motivated by the purpose. :-)

My class loved this project. We had some big ideas and this kit helped us to focus on achievable goals and think about who we could help in our community. We chose to form a relationship with our local rest home and organised a visit to share Christmas Cards and stories with the residents. We couldn't take photos while there but I can assure you it was a room full of smiles! We will definitely continue to visit our new friends.

Team 10 from Napier Central School teamed up with Sally from the Hawkes Bay Regional Council to remove rubbish from our local estuary. The kit was really motivating because we discovered that we could create a SVA like other schools before us. We wore the badges and the fluro vests and we asked parents to help with supervision &; transport. We were surprised at the amount and range of rubbish &; we followed this up by writing to the Napier City Council about our concerns &; ideas re. the dumped doggy-do bags. Thanks Schoolkit-we love your ideas, resources and hands-on projects.

This was a really good resource. Probably suited more for senior students. Good to work with a senior class and have mixed groups. The juniors wouldn’t have been able to do it on their own. We tidied and cared for our school community- picking up rubbish, planting new plants and vegetables and having a weed- athon.

Based on a topic earlier in the year, our five Year 2 classes decided to do a beach clean up at the Wakaaranga Creek as their action for SVA Community Guardians. The children led the setting up of the day but unfortunately it was raining. So we went back to the children and they quickly devised Plan B, which was cleaning up and sorting the waste at our own school. They liked having platoon leaders and they felt like the action they took was worthwhile. Being a part of a team, the sense of community and being in an 'army' were other highlights. They are now talking about their next projects. Teachers thought the children used cross curricular as well as academic skills, children were empowered and seen as experts. Loved the kit and will use it again (minus the badges which the children have). Perfect for our budding environmentalist at Wakaaranga Primary as a GreenGold Enviroschool.

Our class of Year 2 children enjoyed the chance find things around the school that needed to be done and helping out. They liked exploring the kit, using the badges and vests. They spent time collecting rubbish around the school, helping to put out bark chips on the new playground and putting sand into our new sandpit. They have taken great pride in the work that they have done.

We had over 20 students volunteer in our local early childhood centres and junior classes at our 2 local primary schools. They helped students in the classroom and did things like making christmas cookies in small groups. They also helped with outside projects like painting and gardening.
