We have had a really, really busy few months and haven't been able to do this wonderful kit yet. When I ordered it I didn't know we would be involved with Tuia 250. Rather than just to a half hearted attempt on our SVA is is ok for us to do in term 1 and then send our feedback? Love the kits, just got overloaded and want to do it justice. Many thanks Karen

Thank you again for our wonderful SVA kit. All the year 5 and 6 students at Shelly Park school will be going to the Mangemangeroa Reserve to assist the volunteers with mulching, removing rubbish and fixing plant protectors. Our volunteering day is set for 16 December and we are busy requesting donations of gloves and empty 3 litre milk bottles from our school and wider community

Apologies for the late feedback on the SVA kit. We ended up rolling this in with our 'Walk the Length of New Zealand' kit. We used our inquiry of 'Kaitiakitanga' and walked 18km around our local community today. We picked up rubbish along the way. We stopped in at a local primary school and connected with students coming into Intermediate next year. Although we would have liked to have done more in our community - we will take our SVA kit and ideas with us on our upcoming camp to Opouahi in Northern Hawkes Bay. Many thanks once again school kit for a fantastic resource.

I was a bit apprehensive using this with my 6 year olds but was pleasantly surprised. What we got out of this the most was the huge sense of whānau and of team work. We volunteered at our kindy. They talked about how they were giving up their fun Friday morning to help others. They mended books, swept, collected rubbish and cleaned. They did this in teams they selected themselves as well as naming their team. They went into teams based on their strengths and skills. They also organised a huge morning tea to share with the Kindy. they got their parents on board as well. After mahi they got to interact with the younger children and have a play themselves. A really worthwhile kit and will also provide us with something to write about and reflect upon. What worked and what didn't. it was probably a little complex for this age and I would love to see it used with an older class. Love that the Kits can be used over and over again!
