“The students loved getting their special badges and their vests. They actively engaged in their learning because they had their set roles and jobs that they needed to do. They used the structure and the themes in the kit to help them explore the whole school theme of champions.”
“We are yet to use the kit as we are going to use this in December as a way to give back to the school community. I used this last year very successfully and the kids enjoyed giving back to the community in this way.”
“We are having a great time seeing how other schools are using the kit to become part of the SVA. We are currently trying to brainstorm and come up with what our project will be.”
“My class thoroughly enjoyed this project. It allowed them to develop skills such as resilience, independence, empathy and may other personal characteristics. I like how the project allows the students agency.”
“Ako 10 have been working on a number of projects in our community. The kit has helped inspire students to do something good in our community and to think about others who are less fortunate than ourselves. Students have done all the planning and organising and will go out in the community next week. I will sumit photos as the students go around.”
“A great kit that really brought us together as a class. It suited the concept of sustainability that we were inquiring into. As part of our taking action and making connections with our learning the LearningNeighbourhood planned a trip to the beach, they organised rubbish bags and gloves for everyone and arranged with the council to have our collected rubbish removed from the beach. We filled bags of rubbish quickly and were astounded at what we found lying on the beach which led to further discussion about how important it was to protect our environment and habitats. The group plannign this event has completed a RAM form and everything ran smoothly including finishing before the rain came down. We love our beaches in Gisborne and it has been inspiring to hear of our learners returning to the beach to continue cleaning up with their families.”
