SVA Schools: Volunteer Kit 19 Reviews

Leanne Hanson and myself thoroughly enjoyed this kit. It gave the learners ownership and the chance to step up and plan their own way to give back to our community. It tied in perfectly to our Social Responsibility unit and showed learners what planning an event looks like. We ended up doing a clean up and a local park (Park Island) which all learners took part in and were proud of their efforts. Awesome kit.

My class really enjoyed this kit. We decided to weed and clean out our very overgrown and unused vege gardens so we can start a garden to table programme. Students were put in groups and allocated part of the garden to work on. They needed to work together to organise the tools they needed and to also ensure they knew the difference between a weed and a plant! A skip was organised, as was parent help. The best thing is that this is an ongoing project. The kids were very keen to just jump in and plant but then realised that the gardens needed more soil and some good soil - we only found 2 worms! We've just had some new garden mix delivered which needs to be moved into the gardens. There is more weed control to do in the general garden area. All in all this has given the children a sense of pride and ownership for the area that had not been used in quite some time. One of them has also organised someone to donate seedlings when we're ready to plant. Thanks School Kit!

Hannah will reply on our behalf. She has done an amazing job organising the kids and getting the project going. We have not finished yet. It has been an excellent way of getting the children t o collaborate and think beyond themselves.

My class liked the posters easy to understand the process of organising A SVA they thought the applying for a job was great and filling out an application form.. I thought it was designed really well to gradually learn about community or environmental needs. My class went to a collage and repotted native seedlings to be plant be Trees for Survival around waterways in june 2020.

It was awesome playing with the tiles. I liked all the movie characters. I liked the different foods. They were really cool. The tiles were so cool. I liked the different pictures. I liked the different girls on the tiles. I liked making words with the tiles. I like playing matching games like matching up the characters. We played memory with them. We used the fishing rods to make some very crazy sandwiches and talked about whether we would eat them or not and whose was the craziest. I liked playing with the tiles because they were so awesome. We used them to make shapes for maths and patterns. We tried all the different tasks on the task card. We got into teams and came up with different ways the could use the tiles. We even showed our Warepa Wonders (our 3 year old transition group) ways to play with them. The Junior Class and Mrs Puna say a massive thanks to everyone at School Kit for making these fabulous kits.

I passed the Kit on to a colleague, as I didn't have the time I thought I would, to do it justice. I plan to try again next year. What I saw, I loved. Thank you

Have been awesome, really great for our kids who do lots outside of school. Only slight issue is there is no way of cross checking student input and we have seen some questionable hours but we have no way to verify what has been entered. Otherwise it's fantastic for motivating and including students.

My students loved having the autonomy to plan an activity to give back to their community. The planning sheets and resources made it easy for students to break down the tasks and ensure that everyone had a role to play
