I can't fault the resources provided except I would have liked easier directions of links to videos to show students what other primary school aged students are doing individually or as groups to help others. Over lockdown there were great TV news items that showed what New Zealand kids were doing and it would have been great to have easy access to them rather than spend a lot of time searching the internet for them.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We tidied, rebuilt and planted an old vegetable patch in the school to promote a garden to table strategy in our community. Learners identified they wanted to help supply and teach others how to grow vegetables to become more sustainable in their lives. T

This kit enabled our learners to complete a project right from conception to seeing it have success in our school and wider community. Some of the concepts and officer roles were tricky for the younger kids in my class but with lots of teacher support and the role descriptions provided we were able to start building knowledge around this. I know that in future years as the kids grow up they will continue to build on their knowledge with a volunteer focus. Having this kit in our classroom and having the chance to come up with an idea, implement it, work through any issues and responsibilities then see the impact on our families and school has been fantastic for our learners to be a part of!

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Unfortunately due to Covid and lockdown levels we have not yet been able to complete our project. We have done all the planning for it and we are looking at completing our waterway project before the end of the year.

This was a really cool kit that focused on collaboration. We were really excited to come up with our idea as a class and allocate roles within the class.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Students fundraised for SPCA by making a lunch time dodgeball tournament where it cost a gold coin or animal food or a blanket for the animals to enter. What type of project did your class undertake? Fundraising, Other
Students collaboratively worked together to fundraise food, blankets and money for the SPCA. They also did a school clean up, picking up all the rubbish around the school. Initially, they were to do a beach clean up but due to poor weather, they did a school one instead. As I had Year 5 &; 6 students, I feel the job descriptions and ideas were a little difficult for them to get the concept of. I feel if these jobs were simplified slightly (for this year group), there would have been more ownership from the whole platoon. Overall, the students got there in the end, but there needed to be some teacher direction to give them some ideas. This was their first time so I would be interested to see how they would do it again if given another opportunity. There was lots and lots of learning with collaboration, compromise and problem-solving. They did feel very proud of their efforts and I am sure they are keen to volunteer again.
