What was the community impact of your volunteering project? The volunteer organisations appreciated the letters, cards and home baking the children gave to them to thank them for their hard work. The children also did a lake front clean up, picking up all the litter alongside Lake Wanaka.

We used the SVA Kit as part of our learning about Volunteers in Our Community (NE to Y1 pupils). In Term 2, we visited volunteer organisations in our community (Fire Service, SARs, DOC, St Johns) to learn about what they do. We baked some treats for them to thank them for their work. In Term 4 we have been learning about the environment and used the kit to find ways to volunteer and give back to the local community.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? This encouraged the school and other classes to look at what we do with our rubbish. The children enjoyed problem solving and learnt to listen to each other's ideas. Now that we have started this, we are more likely to plan a volunteering venture outside

The SVA Kit was great and fitted in with our value of working together - he waka eke noa. The children got into groups to figure out ways to better keep our school clean and be better with our rubbish. Some chose to add gardens, some to promote recycling, others to compost our fruit rubbish. This was a good process.

We received the kit and I have incorporated some of the activity ideas into our Senior Hub weekly activities. Due to Covid and difficulties running events at school, we didn't undertake any wider community activities or events. It would be fantastic to be able to do something next year.

What type of project did your class undertake? Project for Those in Need
Kia ora team, I did struggle to make this kit more Year 0-1 friendly but the tamariki led the way and what a success this has been. We started with planting sunflower seeds and from here related it to planting an idea. We spoke about Ta Koha (giving without receiving) and came up with a plan to support tamariki in our area that aren’t as lucky as we are. We decided to become elves like Santa and donate toys for tamariki from our own homes. We came up with a plan 1 letters home to inform parents 2 bring in donations 3 categorise 4 sanitise 5 take picture 6 wrap and add pics for those to give to appropriate tamariki 6 donate to local organisation. I was absolutely blown away by my 5 year olds and have never been more proud of what they have achieved. We are in the final processes of wrapping and giving to a local food bank. This kit has taught our tamariki that there are others that are less fortunate and that kindness goes a long way. We have also discussed how lucky we are to have what we have. Thank you so much for this experience and I know it he tamariki will remember this in years to come. Naku to rourou nau te raurau ka ora ia te iwi. Ka nui te mihi Seanne Clarke

As a group of 6 and 7 year olds we used the Student Volunteer Army kit to fit with our Sustainable plastic inquiry. We collected and sorted plastic milk bottle tops for Precious Plastics, who recycle small plastic items that often miss out on being recycled. We washed all the tops (1800) ,we also used them for making patterns for algebra in maths before we sorted them into their colours. Due to covid levels we were unable to do everything we had initially planned on doing. We shared our project and ideas with our buddy class at school.
