They were able to see the relationship between science and baking and what different ingredients actually do. The maths with having a balance was effective as they used this to then decide what worked and what different.

“Thank you for the kit it was okay it sort of went with our topic for electricity but it would have been better if we were able to get the electronic set. Firstly, I have to say it was really quite hard to understand how to use your website and really had me confused. It showed that I still have a lot to learn online and how it can be of huge benefit to my learning online. It also highlighted that reading through a lot of messages just felt like time was wasted when all I really wanted was a reply to my question. That's all. The New world card did not come with any instructions or amount to spend so didn't use it? That was another question I wanted to ask as well. Tamariki were engaged in learning how to make the cake and noticed changes that occurred with bubbles etc. They really enjoyed eating it too.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Healthy eating and using everyday tasks like cooking or baking as an example of measurement - it was good to try it out with the kit and realise how easy this is.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? We used this to incorporate our mesasurement based learning in math. It allowed my students to see a real world example of measurement through the form of baking a cake.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are now exploring kai in our community and what recipes we can create using these. Last week we cooked Tī Kōuka (Cabbage Tree) so the kit has lead us down a fabulous cultural cooking pathway.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? Substituting ingredients to maintain the original weight was fabulous for their maths learning. The scientific process of rising agents was really valuable learning for the children.
