“Good charger/maintainer at a good price. My wife and I recently retired so our cars now do lots of short trips or sit for weeks on end while we're away. Having had battery issues and seeing how expensive it was to let a battery die I decided to update my venerable old battery charger. (I looked at a solar trickle chargers but most modern cars don't leave their 12v cigarette lighter active) Did a bit of research and decided on the Ring 6V, the newer model with lithium charging ability. It seemed to tick all the boxes, for 12v and 6v batteries of all description and charges at 6v for cars, plus has various battery care modes so as to restore the battery and not over charge. (The 8v one is more powerful but only charges at 4v on cars so is actually slower and the 4v one is a tad cheaper but less powerful) So far so good. It was delivered quickly, we'll packaged and seems well built. It's small enough to fit inside the engine bay and close the bonnet while it works. (I set my alarm and leave the car overnight) And on long trips it will maintain a battery in good health and full charge without overcharging. Nice long slim leads with o-ring or crocodile clip options. (Maybe a tad flimsy but means they fit in engine bay easily without impeding bonnet closure.) Best of all it's fully water proof so can be left outside without worrying. Time will tell on it's reliability but I have high hopes. Probably my only slight complaint is the instruction manual which is picture only as it's for multiple countries. (Fine but ring should really have an online explanation or YouTube videos etc) Once you know how to use it it's very easy but I did watch YouTube videos to check I was doing it right. In short you connect the leads and plug it in and it gives you your battery voltage. Then press the mode button to cycle through the options. For our cars that's 12v car which will top-up to 14.6v then read full. 12v winter which tops up to 14.8v or lithium. The lithium must not be used on a normal battery or vice versa as they have different charge stages and maintenance states and can damage your battery. You'll get an error code if clamps on wrong terminals or battery not reading but working fine on our 2 cars. If the instructions were clearer and explained winter mode, error codes etc it would have been 5 Stars. Very happy so far.”
