“I purchased two of these heated towel rails for my new ensuite and bathroom. They are well-built, well-designed, and work beautifully.
Be sure to turn it on at least an hour before you take a shower. Whilst the towel rail warms up quickly, the towel itself (particularly the folded sides not touching the rail directly) take a while to get warm. I have mine plugged into a smart switch so I can control it with Siri, which allows me to switch it on before heading home from work – perfect for toasty warm towels and a gentle warmth to the bathroom that takes the edge off the cold of winter, ready for a shower right as I arrive home.
Whilst the product is very well-packed, I would have liked to see more sustainable packaging: there was a LOT of soft plastic, hard plastic, and foam, none of which is reusable or recycleable. The mounting poles come in plastic "blister" packaging, which is very difficult to cut open without also cutting your hands. Be careful - two of the four tiny little grub screws from the mounting poles were loose in the pack, and I nearly lost them!!
I was able to mount mine with two screws into timber studs, and two screws into plaster. If you're going into plaster, you will need to supply your own plaster anchors - I used the Ramset Super Wallmate anchors from Bunnings, which are rated for 20kg and designed in such a way so they will never "pull out" of the plaster like other plaster anchors have done to me! Be sure to use the screws provided with your plaster anchors.
Finally, be aware that you will need a friend to help you! You will need to hold the towel rail up to the wall, then have your partner precariously place a bubble level on the top, before taking a pencil to outline the mounting poles. Next, put the towel rail down, pre-drill your holes (you will have to eyeball the centre of the circular outlines your partner just made), use a Magic Eraser to remove the pencil marks, and screw in the wall brackets. Now, you can install the towel rail and tighten the grub screws with the included allen key.
Here's a handy list of everything you'll need:
- A friend,
- Pencil,
- Bubble level >600mm long,
- Power drill,
- Philips #2 screwdriver,
- Stud finder,
- Ramset Super Wallmate 20kg plaster anchors,
- Magic Eraser,
- Time, patience, a clear head, and a good eye.
I wish a mounting template sheet was included - putting a piece of paper on the wall, levelling it, and securing with some masking tape would be much less challenging! Then, it would be MUCH easier to pre-drill the holes, remove the template, screw in the brackets, and install the towel rail.
Overall, a solid product that works well - even if the packaging and mounting process could be better.”
