“I’ve been using a cheaper all-in-one travel backpack from Nordace for over 5 years and absolutely loved it—except for the flimsy shoulder straps, which eventually pushed me to look for a replacement. After a long search, the Tropicfeel Shell Backpack stood out as the most versatile option in their lineup. Overall, the Shell is a clear upgrade in terms of quality and durability, but unfortunately not in design, at least for my needs. Things that could be improved: 1. The lack of a large, quick-access external pocket. This is my biggest gripe. The backpack has a front area that would be perfect for an easily accessible pocket, but it’s kept closed and reserved for the SEE System—which I don’t use. It’s too bulky for airplanes and I don’t love how it looks. Adding a simple zipper here would make a huge difference. It would be ideal for quickly stashing a book, a liquids bag for security checks, or smaller items without having to unclip the top flap or unzip the main compartment. 2. Slightly too heavy and bulky. I use this as my only bag when traveling. In its most compressed form, I’d love for it to fit comfortably under an airplane seat, but it feels just a bit too tall. I do love the expandability—that’s exactly why I chose this bag—and it works great as an overhead carry-on. However, the fabric is very thick and firm, which adds noticeable weight and reduces overall comfort. I’d love something similar closer to the 1000g range. The back padding also feels a bit excessive, and I wish the hip straps were removable. 3. Weak outer bottle pockets The mesh material feels vulnerable to stretching or damage. Given how sturdy the rest of the bag is, this part could really benefit from extra reinforcement. 4. Awkward shoulder strap adjustment Adjusting the strap length isn’t very smooth. Unlike most backpacks, you can’t just pull down on the straps—you need both hands, which feels unnecessarily clunky. 5. Inner pockets could be more flexible The smaller internal pockets are fine, but I’d love internal bottle-style pockets similar to the outer ones. I’ve found these incredibly useful for power banks, toiletries, or bottles when I don’t want them on the outside. What I do like: - Excellent overall build quality (bottle pockets aside) - Great clips on the top flap—very easy to open - Separate padded laptop compartment - Suitcase-style main compartment opening, plus top-flap access - Hidden passport pocket on the back - Kangaroo pocket - Chest and hip straps”

“I was very (negatively) surprised with the quality of this backpack. I heard many good things and saw a lot of good marketing on instagram. For my sabbatical trip to Asia I thought this would then be the perfect extra bag to travel with. To my surprise after 1 flight the shouldre strap was already letting loose and I am afraid it will tear even more along my trip. I directly. reported it to the customer service desk and got a very standard reply even whilst I explained that I would be traveling the coming 3 months. The return policy is also not easy to fill if you are unable to exchange the product. Therefore I am not happy ith the product (which might be an exception) and also not with the service provided.”
