Beer52 When I first came across Beer52 I was super stoked about the range of beers from far and near that I could try without having to find them online and pay for one-offs or shipping. The Good things about Beer52: - If you like trying different beers from around the world you will love trying Beer52. - Within your case you’ll get the latest issue of Ferment Magazine which is a pretty interesting craft beer magazine. - You’ll get a snack within your case, thrown in for free. Now the important bit: What’s Bad about Beer52? - You will not receive any order confirmations at all after your first case. - You cannot request order confirmations. - You cannot cancel your subscription online. - You cannot pause your subscription for more than one month, and you won’t receive notice before your subscription resumes and is billed. - You cannot update the delivery address after noticing that you’ve been billed for yet another month. Once 'Beer52' appears on your bank statement even if it’s only an authorisation, there is no way to cancel or amend the delivery. The marketing company behind the Beer52 branding have done a fantastic job at creating a seemingly inviting and care free website for Beer enthusiasts. The reality is that this company is geared up to sell, sell, sell without much of a care for it’s existing customers. I really looked forward to receiving my first case of beer as I don’t buy beer much and although my supermarkets have a wide selection available, I had no idea where to start. I quickly found that one case of beer would last the best part of a few months and although I would have been happy to receive a couple of cases of beer a year this is not possible to have arranged. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic I received an offer from Beer52 by email for a case of 10 beers for £10. I thought this would be a good time to get some beers in before everything kicked off. After placing my order I had to travel away from home (before the lockdown) and ended up being stuck away from home for what is now almost 3 months. I phoned Beer52 to see if they could change the delivery address but it was too late. This wasn’t their fault and I accepted that I would have to wait to be united with my case of beer. Roll forward 4 weeks and I notice on my online banking that there’s an authorisation for Beer52 appeared that day. When I phoned them to ask what this was for I was told that by taking the offer of beer for £10 the month before I’d enrolled on a subscription. This subscription was for my home address which I was now no longer able to access as I was (still am) hundreds of miles away. I was told that it was too late to amend the delivery date but both boxes of beer would likely be fine in my garage until I return. They then suggested to order another case of beer to be delivered to my current address (which they’d update on my account) to enjoy while the lockdown is in effect. They offered to reduce the price by £10 which while on the phone I thought was better than nothing. Once off the phone I realised how ridiculous it was to have 20 bottles of beer at home which would likely last me more than 6 months and tried to phone back to cancel the subscription. It took a while originally to call them as they were working from home and they were receiving a lot of calls, after 30 minutes I gave up and regrettably forgot about the order. Which brings me onto this month. I am headed home tomorrow in 24 hours of writing this review, cue the email being received from Beer52 to say my delivery was on it’s way. Well that’s not ideal but at least it’s headed to where I’ll soon be. Or not, as I just remembered the address had been updated on the account after being talked into getting another box delivered over the phone the month before. I now have a third box of beer being sent to an address I will no longer be at with no way to cancel, amend or do anything about as Beer52 refuse to send any order reminders or confirmations until they have your money in their account without any possible way of you reasonably requesting a refund. Beer52: I WANT TO CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION NOW. Not after waiting on the phone to see if I can get through to someone between Mon-Fri 9am-5pm with the already ominous "Please note: We are experiencing high call volumes, expected wait times are currently around 15-20 minutes.". This is ruining your brand. Plenty of people frequently order a few subscription deliveries and cancel for a period of time until they make use of them. Not everyone is trying to cancel forever. And those of us who have cancelled our subscriptions in the past are now so alienated and frustrated that we know not to bother reactivating our subscriptions as we will have such an unnecessarily negative experience with your brand just trying to stop subscriptions for a couple or a few months. I would just order a box of 10 beers from your online shop but a random selection of cheapish beers come to around £44 with £5 delivery fee which is much more than the £29 subscription fee. So I just won’t bother ordering anything from Beer52 ever again.
