I offered some very good furniture to BHF; better, in fact, than some of that in my own residence some 140 miles away (the disposal was from another small property which I was now selling; I would have taken the furniture for my own use but the costs of transport made this uneconomic). BHF said they couldn't sell a couple of items; basically a double mattress and an armchair. Fair enough, BUT -for disposing of these nonsaleable items they quoted me - wait for it! - £550 plus VAT. I honestly thought at first that this was a (very bad) joke. An unshamedly commercial firm - Junkmaster, located in Falkirk, Central Scotland and whom I recommend highly - eventually disoposed of these items for £120; about 20% of the BHF quote. I would never donate to BHF again; I would choose some other charity instead. It seems to me that they are operating an exploitative and rapacious commercial practice in charitable guise.
