We were very disappointed recently with BHF Wandsworth whom we had contacted to pick up a beautiful hardwood (Sheesham wood) bookshelf from our home. The initial contact was friendly and warm. A date was set up and the removal team arrived within the timeframe expected. From there it went all downhill. My son and I had already generously moved the furniture item down from our bedroom to the first landing so it could moved out expeditiously. On arrival the team, who spoke broken English, left the removal truck running in the middle of the one way street outside our home. I explained to them I had specifically blocked two spaces for them so they could park their van. They weren’t the least bit interested. They just wanted to see the furniture item in question. They took all of ten seconds looking at it, took one or two pictures and then rushed back down the stairs saying to me as they were leaving our house “can’t take this”. When I asked why they said, this has been repainted - which it clearly never was as this is an original Rosewood style hardwood in its natural color (was never painted when we bought it new). I can only suspect they saw a few “white paint marks” from where it had grazed the wall and used that as their excuse. They were not interested in taking it - they were probably running behind schedule, did not want to bother parking their van, maybe they felt the furniture was a bit heavy? In any event they concocted an excuse and were in and out within 2 minutes after my son and I had prepared everything to make it easy for them. To take the biscuit, when my wife called to complain about the service the customer rep just rabbited what the driver had clearly put on the system; when she then said she would pass the phone to me to discuss further, the Customer Rep hung up. Awful experience all round, never to be repeated again.

BHF Watford - we had initially requested a house clearance, but he said there were only a few items they would resell so instead we agreed that list and booked in for a pick up of those items. The rudest men arrived, aggressive and unpleasant. His way of pointing to furniture was by kicking it. Despite having the list in his hand he then refused to take several items. I had travelled an hour for this, they had already been assessed! He said he was happy to take 2 wardrobes from upstairs but then made a lame effort to get them down the stairs and left without them. I have given away on the OLIO app to a variety of local grateful people. There is a gap in the market for repurposing furniture but not sure BHf really care about that.

Drivers won’t take things if it’s too much effort. I had a leather sofa and chairs and driver said it’s faded in parts ( where you sit on it). so he wouldn’t take it. A local charity came and took it and were so very grateful. This organisation obviously only wants brand new items so go to a local charity instead of wasting your time with this one.

What is it with the bhf! I had a perfectly good bed frame for a single adult or a child, I'm replacing it for a double. They looked at it and said 'we don't take kids beds' I told them that it's a bed for adults but can be used for a child. They just stared at me! It was a white framed bed in perfect condition! I'm not donating to bhf again. They are always looking for a reason not to take items. It's not the first time I have had this attitude. Are they just lazy?

They seem to be highly selective about what they collect upon arrival. The item I offered had no significant issues—just a minor one—and was perfectly suitable for someone in need. Instead, they muttered weak and unconvincing excuses for not taking it. This is the second time they’ve wasted my time! It’s becoming clear they only want brand-new items with tags/labels on them, and if that’s the case, they should make it clear on their website. They seem to have forgotten their purpose—they are a charity-based organization, not a boutique or a high-end store! I’m beyond frustrated with their poor customer service. If they insist on only collecting brand-new items, they need to communicate that when booking a collection. Their lack of transparency and appreciation is unacceptable. Avoid these ungrateful, unprofessional people. Donate elsewhere to ensure your items actually help those in need and don’t waste your time. If I wanted to give brand-new furniture, I would have personally given it to someone truly in need. The staff, especially the drivers, are rude, arrogant, and struggle to communicate effectively. Take your donations elsewhere for a better experience. If I had the option to rate them 0 stars, I absolutely would—1 star is far too generous for the experience I’ve had with them.

I had arranged for the collection of a good 3 piece suite. When they arrived to collect it they sent a photo to someone who said they did not want it as they had too many. I would have been more than happy to have sent a picture when I booked. What a waste of delivery drivers and my time. I was so upset it was so unnecessary to test me like that.

I have handed in many items & had furniture collected many times at the New Kirkgate, & Junctio Street, Leith, Edinbugh branches. Was in recently to arrange collection of a Tub Chair. They were happy to do this until I gave them my postcode of EH5. They refused it saying due to my postcode I had to now deal with the branch in Gorgie, Edinburgh. I advised I had always used this branch which is nearer me, where I do my shopping & where I xan park but they still refussed to collect it. They said they'd take it uf i dropped it off. Being a tub chair, me geing a pensiober & due to no oarking near the shop this is not practicaI. I was upset as I have supported them for years and also gave my mums funeral collection money to BHF. Absolutely appauling, you would think they would appreciate donations no matter which branch you use. I would NEVER shop OR Hand anything in to BHF again.

They seem to pick and choose what they want to collect when they arrive to collect items. There was nothing wrong with the item apart from a very minor issue. Would have been fine for someone to have. Muttering pathetic unconvincing excuses as to why couldn't take it. Complete waste of time! Stayed in for nothing. Go elsewhere!!! Try Furniture Now - they are much more helpful and do actually want items!!

Booked a collection for a Stag hard wood sideboard with a glass display cabinet on top. On arrival said they could not take it as the glass in the cabinet doors and shelves did not have a kite mark etched on them to show it adhered to safety standards. Unit was made in 1990 so this was not common, the manufacturers label on back had the BS number on which was equivalent of todays EU marking?? Was going to take the sideboard until but instead of lifting the cabinet off the top they slid it over and left of big scratch in the french polish on the front ledge of the sideboard. Both in garage now waiting to be broke up and took to dump.

Total waste of everyone's time. No wonder people fly tip. Don't check anything before turning up. Then refused to take, based on the drivers quick look and leave you high and dry. Pay to have them removed, at least you can be certain.

BHF Crawley apparently only do same day deliveries?! They would not allow us to buy and deliver (paid), literally 3 days later OR buy and then arrange a collection of goods for 3 days later. What a stupid system. Surely it would make sense to plan deliveries in advance? You would think they have a delivery system in place as it is 2024 but honestly just feel like they don't want to make an effort, take any initiative or really care and apparently don't need any sales. So much for for needing money for research. Anyway, went to St Catherine's around the corner...and had a wonderful experience. No fuss. Paid and arranged delivery. Really don't understand how this can be so difficult for BHF. Wouldn't recommend.

We offered 3 new, beds to BHF Leytonstone. The bed frames are powdered steel, take up very little space when dismantled and the mattresses and frames were purchased less than 6 months ago and had been used with mattress covers on, so clean and unstained. BHF Leytonstone refused to take them and then came out to the parking lot to take a look (after refusing to take them). Oh, and they share a parking lot with a supermarket and you have to pay to go in and show BHF things. It is extraordinary that how hard it is to do the right thing!

Waited in all day for a collection with no contact from BHF Eastleigh ,had to go to the local chemist for flu and covid jab, got the phone call at the chemist 15.50 from the driver , did tell him I’ve been waiting all day and would be back at 16.15 he said he couldn’t wait and that I was last pick up on the list today. Personally I think they could inform people when it’s going to be an afternoon pick up rather than have them wait around all day……Definitely will not be wasting another day waiting around rather send the furniture to the dump .

Terrible attitude from delivery driver who turned down a perfectly sellable sofa. I called the BHF for collection of a perfectly good corner L shaped sofa. It had all the fire labels and all the covers were washable (which I had washed before collection date) Compared to the sofas I had seen in the BHF Huntington store it was in great condition and as someone who has been involved in a similar charity business of collection I was sure the process would be straightforward. I was the second collection on their list of that morning and subsequently they turned up on time in a Luton van, and from the conversation I had on the phone the kind lady explained, "... they are usually on time because they like to finish promptly at 3pm given its a Friday..." I understood the rule that the fire label proof was priority and immediately went to show the delivery driver the labels. He didn't even look at the sofa. He picked up one of the sofa cushions and said... "If you just come outside with me mate I'll tell you what my problem is..." He told me to smell the cushion and said that it smelt pongy and if it was taken into their warehouse depot it would end up smelling worse. He took the approach that I was off loading junk to save on disposal cost. I felt completely insulted, not only the previous week I had completed many skip runs and had opportunities to dispose of this sofa I am sure this driver was preventing the BHF from making a small amount of money for them. I believe this driver had no intention of picking up this large sofa from the start because they didn't want to overload their empty van too early which may have caused them to make more collection runs for the day and upset their usual Friday schedule of getting off work. Some of these employees of the BHF are more concerned about easy work than having the he heart to make some money for a Charity organization. The delivery driver was telling me someone with OCD issues that my sofa was pongy, I felt insulted and rather stand there listening to any more of his drivel I told directly that his whole approach towards me had been insulting, he was using his discretion for refusal to collect for his own personal gain, I wasn't listening to him anymore and to get out of my home and stop wasting anymore of my time! My experience of this tells me that the BHF really needs to look at some of their employees who carry out the collection service and I understand that there are people who will try to use charities to offload junk to save disposal costs, but this collection driver was terrible and on this occasion lost the BHF potential money. The BHF managers need to review the approach some of their collection drivers take towards furniture donors and to be more knowledgeable about what stock is good and bad. This particular driver lost the Charity potential money.

Tried to donate a two seater sofa in good condition, with no stains or marks. There was a slight scuff mark on the mattress from where the straps rubbed against it, also they said there was no fire resistant label on it, there was! and also one on the armchair itself. They wouldn't take it because of the scuff mark. I think the drivers had already decided they wasn't going to take it, as it was very heavy and one of drivers looked about 12yrs old and a gust of wind would have blown him over. Another charity come and took it in the end and were very grateful for it.
