Having paid for a special delivery in the morning of the birthday and missed it (by 5mins), we were told the delivery will take place next day between 8am to 8pm. Being a key worker I booked a holiday to stay at home to ensure my daughter received her cake. We were notified just after 5pm that the delivery will be late, so we cancelled the meal at her favourite restaurant to stay at home so not to miss the delivery. The cake however did not arrive until 8.56pm and with it having been out on the road for two days in the delightful heat, was not fit for consumption.
Having spoken to the customer service department on the first day (having missed delivery by 5mins) and throughout the second day to ensure delivery will not be late because of the planned meal and our daughter not having a birthday cake to cut on her actual birthday....at no point did they inform us that our delivery will be the last on the run or be travelling around London in a car without refrigeration. Complaining is pointless - the customer service department basically judging whether a cake is fit for consumption by a picture. The terms and conditions are not clear - health warning needs to appear, clearly stating you must ensure you are in the house, none of the vehicles they use to deliver the cakes are refrigerated (evidenced by the picture) and should you miss delivery, just pay the £25 they request to get the cake the same day because regardless of emails stating you will receive the order between 8am to 8pm, it is always the last delivery....to also receive it the following day after 8pm is pointless because you are unable to eat it.
The poor driver had been working since 5am delivering cakes in his car and we were not the last delivery.
