I had an extremely frustrating experience with DoYouSpain, and I strongly advise against using this platform.
I booked a car through DoYouSpain with Alamo at Vigo Airport. When I arrived to collect the car, the Alamo office refused to release the vehicle because I didn’t have the physical version of my driving licence — even though I presented a certified official document, legally valid across the EU.
This certificate is issued under Decree-Law no. 138/2012 (as amended by Decree-Law no. 102-B/2020) and complies with Directive 2006/126/EC on the mutual recognition of driving licences within the EU.
The most frustrating part is that Alamo actually proposed a simple solution: to change the name on the reservation to a friend who was with me and had a physical licence. However, only DoYouSpain could make that change, and despite calling multiple times, no one ever answered. Because of this, the change couldn’t be made, and I lost the rental.
Afterwards, I contacted DoYouSpain by email. I received only a generic automated reply referring to non-refundable bookings, and no response at all to my follow-up messages.
The customer service and after-sales support are awful. Even a simple issue becomes unsolvable if you can’t reach anyone. I will also file a complaint with the European Consumer Centre.
It may look cheaper, but trust me — it’s not worth the stress. Avoid at all costs.
