I had the worst experience with Goldcar and will never use them again. I went to hire a car from Barcelona airport with a prepaid booking using a credit card in my married name. However, because my driving license and passport were in my maiden name, they refused to give me a car. This refusal left me stranded at Barcelona airport with two small children.
Last year, in the other terminal, they gave me a car with no issue using the same credit card, passport, and driving license. This year, for some reason, it was a problem. Upon arrival, the man at the desk had a horrible, moody demeanor. He didn’t even ask for my booking reference, and his level of arrogance was unreal. When I questioned their policy, he got defensive, and I became understandably upset. My children were with me, and he shockingly told me that people like me should be sterilized and shouldn’t be allowed to have children. My kids were crying and distraught by what he had said. That’s the level of customer service you can expect from Goldcar.
To make matters worse, Goldcar has terrible reviews all over the internet. There’s even a Facebook page dedicated to people being scammed by them, and apparently, The Sun newspaper is looking to do a story on them, collecting people’s experiences. They should be exposed and shut down for their dodgy scams and horrible treatment of customers. I've never experienced such terrible customer service before in my life.
After this ordeal, I went to Sixt, who were incredibly supportive. They told me they had witnessed a constant flow of angry customers leaving Goldcar without a car that day and said it was a regular occurrence. Never use these cowboys; they are atrocious!
