Recently I had a horrible experience with the GOLDCAR car rental company, and I want to share it with you and strongly advise you to avoid contracting their services. On October 26th, 2024, I rented a car on the Do You Italy platform to pick up from GOLDCAR Malaga Airport for 6 days, starting on October 26th till November 1st. It was entirely prepaid -around 60 euros- at the moment of reservation. I went to your Malaga Office to perform the formalities and pick up the car. At that point, GOLDCAR representatives offered me the choice to (i) either pay insurance -around 300 euros; or(ii) transfer, as a security deposit, an amount of 1400 euros. The amount proposed for the insurance is huge considering that I paid 60 euros for the rental fee for the car, for the entire duration. Therefore preferred to offer a security deposit of 1400 euro. Although it is highly unusual to transfer the amount to the bank account of the rental company instead of blocking it into my bank account on the credit card, considering that it offers the same level of guarantee for GOLDCAR as a rental car, I consented to pay GOLDCAR 1400 EUR, because I did not seam that I had a choice. However, when the rental company performed the transfer from my credit card to GOLDCAR accounts, something happened: although my bank application clearly showed that the money left my accounts and confirmed the transfer, their systems did not show the money, and therefore, I could not get the car. I contacted my bank to have an explanation. The bank confirmed that it was a successful transfer, as shown in their systems. I was even able to download from the banking app a bank account statement confirming the transfer. I tried to discuss with the representatives from GOLDCAR Malaga Office in order to find a solution, but they were uncooperative, did not offer to help or to investigate somehow the situation, offer a solution, or at least show some respect for the situation I was facing. I was missing 1400 euros from my account following a transfer that the car rental company performed, and no explanation was offered. They did not care. I tried to discuss this with GOLDCAR contact center people several times, and to my surprise, they did not see either the reservation nor the deposit for gas... it was an absolute mess, and no one offered a solution; no one even tried to help. It was a transfer that they performed, and I was missing 1400 euros, for which GOLDCAR offered NO explanation. In this situation and after wasting almost 3 hours of my vacation ( my friends as well as they could not leave without me). I was forced to pay 300 for the insurance to get the car. I still did not have any explanation, not even a promise that they would investigate it and come back with an explanation and sort things out somehow. Total disrespect, completely ignoring my rights, even ironically speaking to me and my friends who tried to discuss with them. I asked for the names of their employees, but they refused to give them to me. Three weeks have passed, a formal complained was filed, still absolutely no response. I have shared with you my experience and I am strongly advise you to avoid using their services. At this point, is no longer about their bad services is about losing 1400 eur. I will involve the relevant authorities and hopefully I will recover the money but you can avoid this.
