Arrived to pick up our car at Beziers airport with 4 young children and was told there was no vehicle available. When pressed the Hertz employee said they didn’t rent vehicles that carried 8 people (even though there was one parked outside) and there was nothing they could do. There was no assistance offered, no calling other branches, no arranging public transport, nothing.
I called the company who we’d arranged the vehicle through who tried calling the employee. They couldn’t get through.
I then called again and had to wait in the queue until I could get to the front. Reluctantly the employee spoke to the company.
It turns out ‘someone’ had put the booking in the wrong folder and they had the booking scheduled for tomorrow.
The Hertz employee now pretended he couldn’t speak English and went and hid out the back whilst a colleague from another rental company finished the booking.
As we were now 90 minutes late leaving, the supermarkets were shut when we arrived at our accommodation so we had to buy a load of expensive takeaways.
I’ve complained through the official channels but got nowhere. Someone picks up the case and starts asking the same initial questions, I respond and then someone else picks up the case. This is a repeated cycle.
I genuinely think this is a Hertz tactic so they don’t have to resolve complaints.
The website mentions a goal as wanting “customers for life”; based on my experience these are empty words and they couldn’t care less.
Absolutely will never use this lot again.
