“I had the worst experience with this company
First, I called to inquire about the costs so there wouldn’t be any hidden fees. The phone rang for half an hour without any answer, so I hung up since they didn’t say what my position in the queue was.
Then, the automated system offered to call me back, so I agreed and waited another half an hour. When they finally called back, it rang for a split second, and I couldn’t pick up in time.
I went to the center, and the reception service was the worst it could be. The staff member just wanted to hand me the keys, give her routine talk, and get rid of me, even though there was only one other person waiting who wasn’t in a hurry.
The car I requested turned out to be different from what I received—completely different brand. They mention on the website that there’s a deposit, but they don’t specify it’s 2000 SEK. Why not clearly state the amount?
I’ll never rent from Hertz again, and I don’t recommend anyone does.”
“Recently I used Hertz in West Palm beach airport in Florida for first time. And had super service. Fast, convenient , professional. I got what i wanted. I return I was late to Airport, without asking gave me drive to take me fast as possible to airport. I got names Jose, Alphonse, and another friendly gentlemen could be supervisor or so. This was November 3-8 , 20024. I will always use only that company. Sincerely virginia”
“I tried to rent a car to be told that Hertz couldn’t find my address in there system despite the fact that I lived there for 25years. And even told them that I have some proof of address with me. And never ever had an issue with other companies(bank, credit cards etc…) and on top that I am charged for the rental. Avoid using Hertz there plenty of other and better car rental companies. The worst company I ever rented from and I rent a lot of cars all around Europe with work”
“If it could be no stars it would be.
Had a delayed flight into Bordeaux, checked in for the car on line with easyJet/Hertz email that was sent to me. Called Hertz to advise of flight delay. Arrived at Bordeaux airport to find they didn’t bother to wait and had closed up and left. All other providers on site had remained open for the flight (45 mins delayed). Had to stay overnight at a hotel at the airport to the tune of 220 euros. Neither EasyJet or Hertz are interested.”
“I will never use Hertz/Thrifty in Greece again. We hired a car from Sitea (Crete) and paid for an automatic crossover for 14 days. We were given a new Hyundai Kona which was all good. The very next day when we tried to start the car, the battery was dead so I called roadside assist and was advised that someone would contact us to come out and check the car. After an hour of waiting, I decided to call the representative at the airport where we picked the car up from. I was advised that he couldn’t come out and swap the car over for hours as he was too busy. He said he had another Hyundai Kona but it was manual. I said that’s fine, I’ll take it.. but had to arrange my own transport to the airport for pick up. The representative told me he would email me a new agreement for me to digitally sign (he never sent a new agreement) When we dropped off the car after 2 weeks, I said to the rep that we were seeking reinforcement because we were charged for an auto but were given a manual in the end. He said he would speak to his manager and get back to me. One week later, nothing so I emailed customer service.. The response I got was nothing more than disgusting. I was told that the car was replaced in a timely matter (dispute the fact that it cost me time and money to pick up) They told me that they replaced it with a “more powerful and spacious car” Here’s the thing, the replacement car was the exact same make and model (and year) so it wasn’t more spacious. Was it more powerful? Sure it’s manual but that wasn’t a requirement of mine otherwise I would have hired a sportier car. The final insult was that they told me they spoke to the representative in sitea and he said he never had a discussion with me regarding the reimbursement for the difference between an auto and manual. After their “customer services” response, it’s not even about the money, it’s the fact that they would treat their customers with such distain. I’ve used Sixt and Europecar in the past and never had a problem.. I’ll go back to them and never use Hertz Greece again.”
“Hertz is as untrustworthy as it gets on the rental market. They add additional fees that you will only learn about on return of the car.
Do not rent here!”
“I was looking to book a rental car in Boca Raton over the Christmas period (15 December 2024-2 January 2025)
I tried to make the booking on line but for some reason the system would not allow the booking to be made.
the vehicle I was trying to book was a seven passenger SUV which was priced at $1,797.42
I telephoned your office and despite quoting the above figure was given a price of $3,200. your representative tried to argue that the price I was referring to was not the price on the website which is ridiculous as I have checked again today and it is still $1,797.42. Your representative then hung up on me which is extremely unprofessional.
Your firms customer service is appalling, if I were able to I would give it 0 out of 5!”
“i received the car after waiting by the desk 1 and a half hours, and i was there on time when my reservation was for, and the way they spoke to me was extremely not nice, and let others push in the que before me”
“WOULD NEVER USE HERTZ AGAIN!! A 1 hr 30 min wait to collect a car at Edinburgh airport on Sat 31st August, 2 staff on the desk, and some customers were at the desk for 15-20 mins each completing their rental agreements. Eventually after 1 hour a few more desks opened up. A very stressful situation all round with no one to ask how long things would take, surely a better system can be sorted out?!?!”
“Went to Scotland July 2024. Booked a specific car from hertz months before my trip.
Upon arrival, they lied and pressured me into taking their car insurance claiming mines doesn’t cover.
They gave me a car I didn’t book! Electric and that’s not at all what I booked, they claimed mines wasn’t available.
Anyway, got one tiny chip on the windshield which is supposed to be covered and they even told me that it’s covered. Got back to Canada and boom!!! $800 was taken from my credit card without notice or consent.
It’s quite disgusting to have to deal with being lied to and ripped off on your very first day to a country you’ve spent so much money on to visit.”
“Waiting 2.5 hours in a queue at Edinburgh airport to pick up my booked car rental - 1 person at desk .
People are having to wait 3-4 hours - I have another 1 hour wait.
People from all over Europe travelled all day - in tears . Terrible service”
“Do not hire a car from this company
There is no phone number to talk to a human
They have taken £1500 from my credit card without explanation.
I have e mailed but they replied about a different query that I didn’t even raise
Plus stranded for over 4 hours in France
Still waiting for a reply a month”
“I booked a car a week in advance, but on the pickup day, the car was not ready. To make matters worse, I couldn't access the car and had to wait for someone to respond to my message since there was no contact number available. I ended up waiting for 3 hours and still did not receive the car. The customer service was extremely poor. I strongly advise avoiding this service.”
“If there was truly a grade below 1 star, I would be inclined to use that for Hertz UAE
Pathetic client relations, with threats and intimidation included.
Devious and deceitful ways and means of extracting money from customers.
Letting down loyal customers with long term agreements and trust of over 4 years by suddenly increase in 38% rentals instead of doing in a gradual manner i.e. 10% per year
I believe it is best to keep away from such rental companies. With plenty of surprises along the way they are no longer your trusted and reliable partner.
There is no peace of mind dealing with them as there will always be harassing calls and intimidation to submit.”

The manager Mr Syed and Mohammed very helpful, but unfortunately mr Syed is on a holiday,. I lost my day earnings
And still I have to pay my weekly rental,
Paying £269/- per week.”
“They have charged me for damage on the wrong vehicle even though the registration number is different to the one I hired despite their own photographic evidence. Trying to get hold of anyone to talk to and show their mistake on their documentation is impossible.”
“The car was fine. What really upset me was the extra £150 they charged me after the car was paid for. I was quoted £50 for the one way fee when I paid for the rental. When I picked up the vehicle, the one way fee was £200. When I brought this up and asked why there response was that's the fee, "Having reviewed the Intercity fee on your invoice, the charges are correct." That it was not what was quoted when the booking was paid for didn't seem to bother anyone at Hertz, they think this is normal business behaviour.”
“Hi everyone. Be careful of renting from this company in france nimes . They're fraud and scammer. Pls check the car properly before singing anything and lookout for chips on the windscreen and lift the both wiper up to check for chips or crack.
They will take money from your credit card and charge you ridiculous amount for windscreen. I was charged £2500 to replace windscreen that's not fault. One of their worker told me the cracks was there and immediately the other worker speak French to him and he change his tone to I don't understand English. I've sent several emails asking for quotations. They never come back to me.
Pls be careful with this company.”
“We picked up a Hertz (it was originally supposed to be Thrifty) hire car from Geneva airport which already had some reported damage. Due to the way that the car was parked (very close to the car in front) I was unable to inspect the very lower part of the front bumper. I did try to raise a small number of other bits of damage (scratches mostly) but these were waved away by the staff and not added to the pre-hire inspection report. I was unable to drive the car until I had agreed to the pre-hire inspection form, and therefore was unable to move the car to fully inspect the front until I had signed the form. I drove the car very carefully during our 4-day hire and did not notice at any time the small dint to the lower front bumper or the scrapes to the plastic underside of the front bumper. On return, the staff immediately identified the damage to the underneath of the front bumper despite it not being able to be seen unless you were lying on the floor in front of the car. I denied causing the damage and my wife asked to speak to a manager or supervisor. The staff then spoke among themselves (in French which we could understand) deciding who was going to be the manager and basically said that if we didn't have photos from the start of the hire then we had to pay. I have since received an invoice for about £1000 which they insist I need to pay by bank transfer. I continued to dispute the invoice on the basis that I was unable to fully inspect the car due to its parking location before signing the agreement. From the way the staff were acting, both during the pickup (retrospectively) and during the drop-off, I believe that they knew the damage was there the whole time and I am effectively the 'fall guy' to pick up the bill. At no point have Hertz attempted to address any of my concerns but have now referred the matter to a UK debt collection agency who are now threatening to take me to court. Hertz or Thrifty, never ever again. Hirers beware.”
“I hired a car from hertz, left £200 deposit, took it nearly 3 hours, i have done 33 miles return, when i took the car back, the agent has confirmed, everything was OK, Next day Hertz sent me in invouce of £35.52 to pay, because they claim i done £448 miles. But i only took the car for 3 hours from 09.00an to 12.00 noon. Is it possible to do 448 miles in three hours, plus they added some extra charges which doesn't make sense to me. If you are thinking of hiring from Hertz, think about the outcome and the extra charges that you will not be told about.
The dispute will continue.”
