I want to share my frustrating experience with the Home Depot credit card to warn others. Last July, while shopping at Home Depot, the cashier offered me a credit card with $200 instant cashback and 12 months of interest-free financing for purchases over $299. I decided to purchase $3,400 worth of products for my new home with this card.
Initially, I was pleased with the 12-month interest-free offer and cashback. After returning home, I set up a paperless account with autopay. However, I recently noticed over $900 in interest charges on my account. When I contacted the Home Depot credit card company, which is managed by Citibank, they informed me that the interest-free period was only for six months. This contradicted the information I received at the store.
I was advised by Citibank to discuss the issue with a Home Depot manager. I spoke with a manager at the Mount Prospect location, but they insisted that the issue is with Citibank. Both companies seem to refuse responsibility, leaving customers like me in a difficult position.
After discussing this with the police, I was advised that it's a civil matter requiring legal action. They also suggested I consider shopping with competitors like Menard's in the future. If I had the resources to hire a lawyer, I would pursue this matter in court
