Shared one 5day meal pack over a 4day hike (63km Rees-Dart in Mt Aspiring National Park NZ)....and did not go hungry!
We dont really eat lunch hiking, our crew is big on snack pockets and candy trades! so 5day pack just brekkie and dinners would work for 3people....buy extra apple and cinnamon brekkie, nom nom nom.
Enough energy without the 'stodgy' feeling you can get from other dehy meals, no preservatives less salt!!! no bloaty gut for your pack straps to deal with.
Just focus on scenery ( and foot placement).
