Rona Installation Google Review What should have taken 2.5 days is now stretching into it’s 24th day and counting for our floor installation. 1. The estimators were given specific instructions on measuring out the top floor and basement and had to be corrected several times by our real estate agent during the assessment. 2. The luxury vinyl did not need a vapour barrier but were charged for it and it was later removed. 3. To facilitate a faster installation, we removed the baseboards, sanded and painted the drywall ourselves. 4. Floor delivery - After playing phone tag for 3 days, we gave up, rented a truck and picked up the flooring ourselves, 40+ packages weighing 60 lbs each and moving them into the house. 5. The transitions in the order were for hardwood instead of laminate and we had to go to the store and exchange ourselves. 6. Some equipment was left on our tiles scuffing it up. 7. The top floor banister was removed overnight with children in the house and left open. 8. The planks were cut so short in the basement that the shoe moulding was unable to cover the gap. See figures 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 9. The bedroom subfloor was levelled for free in an attempt to remove the large dip in the middle of the room. This was redone leaving smaller dips throughout the floor instead of initially lifting the sub floor and addressing the issue properly. Sub floor is also not nailed down correctly, causing loud creaking noises when walked on. 10. Too much carpet was removed at the top of the stairs leaving a 1 – 2 inch gap between the nosing and the remaining carpeted stairs. An old piece was resewn on but a gap is evident and the pile falls in the opposite direction. See figures 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 11. When the banister was reattached to the nosing, instead of drywalling the holes, they put an old/used piece of baseboard to cover it up. See figures 1.9, 2.0 12. Upon completion, installers left garbage on our lawn, bottle caps in our sink and failed to clean the floors from the dust and debris. As well, they left pieces of trim with nails in our washroom. See figure 2.1 13. Clearly unsatisfied with the work, we refused to sign off and waited at least week before someone came out and assessed the work. 14. It took another 6 days of calling persistently, on a daily basis, to get Rona to send someone out to fix the problems. 15. Finally, an experienced installer was able to rectify the short cuts in the basement. Hr tried to reattach a piece of carpet under the nosing, but it was too tiny of a piece and could not be done properly (leaving it not looking seamless, figure 1.8). He began plastering up the drywall, and mentioned that it needed 2 or 3 more coats. It has yet to be sanded or repainted. That was 5 days ago, (Sat. Oct 9th) and they were unsure when they would be returning to finish the 2 day process of properly levelling the bedroom. 16. There is incredibly poor communication between the Rona Burlington location and head office. Paying $7627 in labour alone for 2 floors of a townhouse seemed higher than average but we were confident in the Rona brand expecting a quality turn-key solution for the flooring installation. The additional stress, unending phone calls, repeating the case to numerous people at all levels of this corporation has consumed significant portions of our day at work and at home. Instead of resolving this directly with Rona, it is time to pursue alternative avenues of resolution.
