I’ve just had a terrible experience as a seller on Vinted, and I feel compelled to warn others.
I sold a fragile item that unfortunately arrived broken due to poor handling during shipping. As a responsible seller, I refunded the buyer immediately, I believe in good customer service and didn’t want to make them wait or go through extra hassle. However, because I didn’t follow Vinted’s strict and misleading resolution steps, I was denied any compensation for the damaged item.
Here’s the real issue: Vinted gives sellers two options when an item arrives damaged.
Ask for the item to be returned , even if it’s broken and the seller has to pay for the return postage out of pocket.
Offer a full refund and let the buyer keep the damaged item, but in doing so, the seller forfeits any right to compensation.
In my case, I went with the second option because I didn’t want to inconvenience the buyer. But by doing that, I lost any right to claim my losses. Then I tried selecting the return option, and was told I’d have to pay also the delivery just to get the broken item sent back to me. Completely unacceptable.
To make things worse, I can’t even claim compensation through Royal Mail because Vinted uses third-party courier accounts. That means they are the official customer, not me. I have no control, no access to claim processes, and no protection. It’s a total dead end.
Vinted’s policy actively punishes sellers for doing the right thing. I had no idea how unfair their system is until I experienced it firsthand. Their platform gives buyers all the protection while sellers are left to take the financial loss — even when it’s clearly due to delivery damage.
This whole experience has completely put me off. I’ve closed my shop and won’t be selling on Vinted again. One star, and honestly, that’s being generous.
