I have shopped at Wholefoods for over 20 years. I used to drive from Fredericksburg, VA to the Springfield, VA Wholefoods because there were no stores near me. I now live in Richmond, VA and shop at both Wholefoods; mainly the one that is blocks from my home at 2024 W Broad St. Last evening I stopped at that store to pick up dinner items and a bottle of wine. I was asked to present my drivers license which I did and I also pulled the temporary paper license out stating that my license just expired on my birthday July 7, and I had not yet received my new license. I am 61 years old and do not look like I am possibly younger than 21. My expired license showed my age and photo and the temporary license showed the new expiration date. A manager was called over to authorize my purchase of the wine. He told me the store policy does not allow approval of the expired or temporary license. I said that was ridiculous. He said I am sorry but it is store policy. I spends hundreds of dollars at Wholefoods every month on groceries. That ended yesterday. I will no longer patronize a store that does not accept a valid DMV document as a form of I.D. and that embarrassed me in front of a line of customers and inconvenienced me by causing me to drive to the other side of town in order to purchase a bottle of wine to serve with dinner. Shame on Wholefoods. I will be sharing my experience with all of my neighbors and writing reviews of this deplorable experience.
