I was searching the internet at the beginning of April for car rentals in Florida. Almost immediately a web site, Rentalcars.com blocked my search. I tried to get rid of it, but popping up interfering with my search. Very aggressive website - technically excellent. Eventually, - as I assume it was a price comparison site, I accepted it's offers and I booked my rental car from 12 June to 31 July and accepted their offer of insurance policy.
As soon as I gave my credit card details - assuming that I pay the deposit £200.00 only - the total estimated cost for the rental and the insurance, totalling £1457.47 was taken from my account on 9 April. This is more than two months before the rental was to start. (12 June)
True, in their (Rentalcars.com) Terms and Conditions - seven pages, printed in miniscule letters - there is a vague reference, which says that: "as soon as the car is confirmed...… we will take the money from your card". It does not clarify whether they take the deposit or the full payment.
While in Florida, I checked with leading car rental companies and I could have had a far better deal for both, rental and insurance.
I hope that this information will be useful people who are looking for renting a car.
Dear Mr. Gary Paxton (chief executive officer) one thing is sure, you will not find me among your customers again.
Respectfully submitted, Michael
