“I booked a one night Spa retreat at the Guildford Manor Hotel in Newlands Corner. With Soa Breaks The property was situated amidst well kept gardens and we were welcomed by friendly staff who allowed us to check in slightly ahead of the check in time. Our room which we paid extra to upgrade was basic. The double bed was slightly larger than a single. We found the decor a bit dated and worn with paint chipping off wall and windows. The bathroom was badly designed where the toilet was nearly under the sink . The amenities in the bathroom were sparse ( one tiny bottle of body wash and shampoo) for two adults. The room looked liked it had not been hovered as there was hair on the carpet and stains that seemed to have been ignored for a while . The views from the room were good although both windows overlooked the entrance, car park and access to spa . So we could not really enjoy the views of the gardens without compromising our privacy. The spa staff seemed very new as did the check in agent and didn’t know anything about the menu or wines and had to run back and forth to check about availability of specific items we wanted to order. Eventually we settled down with a lovely view of the surrounding landscape in a perfectly warm jacuzzi. Dinner was excellent and service was prompt and friendly. However we got charged twice for drinks we had ordered. Breakfast was tasty when it was finally replenished. On the whole a good weekend apart from the cleanliness and decor of the bedroom. Staff were all brilliant and made us feel very welcome - which made up for the other little inconveniences.”
