Money grabbing exploitive company. Conductor on the gate told us we could catch the earlier train no problem - conductor on the train said this wasn’t the case and made us pay an extra £100 for all new tickets but said the original tickets could be refunded - also not true. They do it on purpose think of all the extra money they make by giving conflicting information like this. Witnessed a conductor today being aggressive and intimidating towards other passengers. Previous journeys I’ve paid a lot for a ticket and ending up sitting on the floor in a boiling hot carriage with no air con, toilets are always a state and the trains / seats are absolutely filthy. Journeys are regularly cancelled / delayed. Today’s journey was actual extortion - absolutely awful customer service.”

“So yet again absolutely disgusting service on our return rail journey from London by EMR. We decided to upgrade to first class as the previous week's journey was herendous (had to stand part of the journey to Sheffield) on arrival we were informed there was no first class and all reserved seats were now unreserved!! So basically it was a "free for all" on a five carriage train!!! Some of us managed to get a seat but my daughter and her partner had to sit on the floor as did many other passengers. No onboard service provided and A/C not working (did not see one EMR employee on the train) all information on the train was delivered by Norman Collier on the tannoy system!!!. The journey from London to chesterfield took four hours where we were informed that the train had broken down and we would have to get off and wait for the next train to Sheffield BUT there might not be enough space on the first train so we might have to wait for the next!!!! At this point having lost the will to live we got a taxi from chesterfield. And they say privatisation is good!!! The rail companies are very good at taking your money but trying to get a refund/compensation is designed to explode your brain!!! BRING BACK NATIONALISATION!!!!!”
“I have used East Midlands Trains website for years because it has always allowed you to add a London Day Travel card when going to London. The other train websites have to catch up. EM trains are getting my business, I trust them. They give you the best deal wherever you travel, no credit card charge, no need to go elsewhere.”
