What material is your slate fountain bowl made Of?

Have installed a slimline Prestige Water butt. At first rain I note that the water entering at the square central point falls onto a conical shaped diverter with round lower edges. The rain water follows this profile and gets pulled under before falling directly down the drainpipe and away thus not filling the butt. Have i installed this incorrectly ?
