“I have had the meals in the past. They are very flavorful. I recently ordered the Thru Hiker 10 day package. Only thing I would prefer is the dinners coming in individual packets, not two meals. I’m a light weight backpacker. If I only intend to have one meal for dinner (yes there may be times I want two meals at once), it would make it easier and save time if the dinner meals were in one meal packets.”
“Great food for a reasonable price. I wish poor Alaska wasn’t excluded for the $99 free shipping. The population is so small, plus you know USPS has flat rate boxes that are the same price no matter where you ship! Amazing!”
“Packaging was spot on and easy to use. However some of the meals that I ordered are left to be desired in both function and taste. The corn chowder is an example; The taste was not that pleasant and something that runny did not work well on the trail. Also most backpacking stoves only do 2 cups of water for a boil due to capacity but the soup called for 3 cups. This caused either an over boil where it splashed out of the sides due to try to filling up the pot with enough water, or I had to boil 2 batches of water which is troublesome when adding some, sealing, and then having to add more to bring it up.
The other foods were good, I can write a more detailed review on those as I make it through the packaging.”
“I really enjoy my Good To-Go meals when Kayak camping. Easy to prepare and much better tasting than the freeze-dried meals in my opinion. I like to add a few finely chopped peanuts to some of the dishes for added flavor but it is not a requirement.”
“The mushroom risotto is the best backpacking meal I've found yet, but the shipping costs are a big deterrent to ordering. (Shipping is only free over $99)”
“My wife and I took a couple of meals with is on a trip to the Olympic National Park backcountry. They heat up very nice and rehydrate very well with the recommended amount of water. The taste is very good. Texture is almost as if it were made fresh and the serving size is spot on. A two person meal is exactly that, a two person meal. Even the single servings were quite a bit, and I am a pretty big eater. I am looking forward to trying out more of the flavors and introducing some friends to these meals.”
“It was nice to find a good freeze dried food. That is made well. High-quality ingredients. I wish they would make more comforting foods. Like chicken noodle soup. Beef stew. Or even chicken and rice. More simple less spices.”
“I loved all seven of the gluten free and vegetarian and/or vegan meals I brought and tried on my last trip. It's terrific that I can pack food that is lightweight, cost-effective, easy to prepare, and that I know will be safe for my dietary restrictions. The only thing I wished for was more salt! I need to add either salt or cheese to every meal to fully bring out the flavors. The folks I met along the way in my travels who were familiar with Good to Go were enthusiastic in their reviews, but also agreed on this. Otherwise, the food flavor and quality were great!”
“I love the interesting flavors that are offered and that some are reasonably spicy. Some don't rehydrate completely though and end up crunchy, like: Indian vegetable korman, Mexican Quinoa, corn chowder.”
“The gumbo was a huge suprise, I have it at work where I have to bring your own food. I add two hard boiled eggs to it and it makes a great meal. I love all the other meals also, the white bean and kale stew is a go to for me, thanks for cooking and producing good quality food.”
“Probably the best eating I have ever done on a backpacking trip. I got the Vegan kit and it was delicious.
My only complaint is that the single serving wasn’t enough calories for me on 10+ mile hike days. I had to do double servings otherwise I would get hungry again an hour or so later.”
“I ordered 3 samples to test to see if they cold soaked well. As per Jennifer's advice, I avoided the pasta entrees. I gave them 2 hours or so and they did well. This is nice to know, and the time it takes isn't a problem because you can always have the thing soaking in your pack while walking. I would give 5 stars but how good is anything prepared by cold soaking.”
“I have eaten the Thai dish so far and it was delicious! I recommend letting soak for more than 20 minutes. I was not at high altitude but the peas were still a bit hard after 20 minutes.”
