BE AWARE - IMAGINE IRELAND ONLY PUBLISHES POSITIVE REVIEWS ON THEIR SITE Property Ref 7866 Beaufort Kerry house could be amazing BUT it is not. We tried on the final night to provide constructive comment to the owner. However, she told us we were being "picky" as we had been staying at an amazing house. So, since we have been accused of being "picky" here is a list of things which need to improve: Provide an oven glove Provide tongs Ensure all light bulbs work - downlights and exterior outside light not working Provide 6 wine glasses of same quality not a mix of size and shapes Provide a bath plug which fits. Two were provided. Only one fitted and this was after pushing it down Provide pots which all have lids which fit - some did and some did not. This has previously been pointed out in the guest book a number of years ago but not changed. I did note this to owner and again was told I was picky Provide a decent frying pan Provide outside bins so food waste does not have to remain in utility room and dog waste can be disposed of safely Sort out electrical wiring hanging from wall Get a hairdyer which can be switched off without unplugging Finally, I ask the question why does the internet fee need to be paid in cash and why this could not be included in the weekly rental costs. I asked owner why this and utilities had to be paid on final night and was told it was because costs vary. Whilst I understand this to be applicable for utilities it does not apply to the internet which is a "flat" fee. Could this be a way to increase cash in hand and not declare!!! Overall, this could be an amazing house but, in my opinion, requires some TCL. I would not wish to recommend or return.

We had mixed luck with Imagine Ireland. Our worst experience was when we wrote a review that was critical of the property we had rented. Their response was "We're sorry to hear of the problems you encountered and can advise that your questionnaire was received. The feedback given has been forwarded direct to the owner of the property for them to rectify so that future holiday makers do not encounter the same problems. Therefore the review has not been posted to our site as it won't show a true reflection of the property now." As I told them, I have to disagree with their position. The purpose of a review is to allow future guests to make a decision based on the experience of previous guests. Here is our review of the Millgrange Cottage: Staying in this large, one bedroom, one bathroom cottage was very interesting and very disappointing. It is well located near the town of Carlingford, and many sights of the Mourne Mountains and Boyne Valley are easily accessible. However, we’re not sure why the Bord Failte has given it a four-star rating, unless their scale is from 1 to 10. We would give it a 2. Pros: Location is good; there is a washing machine and dishwasher in the kitchen; a good amount of space; and the hospitality shown to us by Mary. Cons: No Wi-Fi, but we knew that when we rented. You can access the internet at a nearby golf course or, as we did, go to the Louth County Library in Dundalk, about 25 minutes away. The kitchen is very poorly stocked – a few unmatched dishes, pans but only one small skillet, only one sharp knife; the floors boards are loose and very squeaky – don’t expect to sleep if anyone is up and moving around downstairs; two single beds in the loft bedroom; small bathroom with no place to put anything like combs, deodorants, shower items, etc., no light over the sink for shaving and, due to the design and sloping ceiling, don’t plan to stand up to use the toilet unless you are under five feet tall; the water pipes squeal when turned on and off – again, light sleepers beware. But perhaps the most disconcerting issue was that on at least three occasions, the owners came into the cottage while we were out, without our knowing they planned to do so. Yes, they did empty the trash, but we were given instructions for what to do with the trash when it needed to be emptied, instructions which we were prepared to comply with. We have been traveling for over a year and a half and stayed in over 40 cottages and apartments all over Ireland and Europe and have never had this experience. During one of these intrusions, we even noticed the beds had been moved – not sure why. Although Don Brassil is listed as the owner of the cottage on the Imagine Ireland website, in 12 days we never saw or met him until the last night of our stay. His wife Mary greeted us upon arrival and did a good job of showing us how things worked. She asked if we would like heat and we said an hour in the mornings would be nice, but that didn’t happen. We did speak with Don on the phone once when he answered our call one wet and chilly morning when we were asking if we might have some heat turned on for an hour, which he did – just that once. We will certainly never revisit this apartment and cannot recommend that anyone stay here without clarifying with the owners the rules of privacy and the policy for providing heat.
