I had high expectations for the International TEFL Academy (ITA) based on their marketing, but my experience with both their online TEFL course and job placement program was deeply disappointing. ITA consistently overpromised and underdelivered, to the point that I would consider it misrepresentation. First, their job placement support was nearly useless. The country data they provided was already two years out of date, which made it difficult to plan realistically for job opportunities. Given how quickly visa regulations and hiring trends change, I expected current information—something they claim to provide but clearly do not. The online TEFL course itself was equally disappointing. My instructor barely participated in the class, offering only a single, generic post each week. Her comments on student posts were brief, generic, and lacked any real engagement or useful feedback. It was obvious she was just phoning it in, which made me question the value of the course as a whole. For the price ITA charges, I expected a much higher level of quality, engagement, and support. Unfortunately, what I got was an impersonal experience and outdated resources. If you're serious about getting TEFL certified and finding a job, I’d strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Hi there, We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. At ITA, we strive to provide quality TEFL training and job search support and take concerns like yours seriously. We’d like to address a few of the points you mentioned: TEFL Course Quality Our online TEFL courses are asynchronous, meaning students can complete coursework at their own pace while receiving support from instructors. Instructors provide personalized feedback on assignments and host weekly office hours to offer hands-on support. Additionally, our Student Affairs team is available Monday-Friday during business hours to assist students with any questions regarding coursework, practicum requirements, and job search guidance. We know that you utilized our team multiple times throughout your course, and we are always happy to support students who seek additional guidance. Job Search Guidance & Placement Support We do our best to provide up-to-date job search information based on annual audits and continuous updates from our partners. You mentioned that some resources were outdated, and we acknowledge that you flagged two schools in a guide as having changed hiring policies. We appreciate that feedback, and we want to assure you that our most recent audit updates are now live on our Alumni Corner portal, with the full audit to be completed by the end of April 2025. Keeping our job search materials up to date is a priority, and we appreciate your input in that process. Guaranteed Job Placement Program Through our Guaranteed Job Placement Program, we worked with you to set up interviews with multiple schools, exceeding the three interviews guaranteed by the program. Ultimately, you were offered and accepted a job, which met the program’s job placement guarantee. Our goal is always to support all our current students and alumni in their TEFL journeys, and we remain committed to providing the best possible resources, products, and guidance. Best, The ITA Team

Let me preface, I work in Korea, & this is a great course with great materials, BUT the price is terrible & it DIDN’T help me get a job. In Korea, only EPIK needs a TEFL or GREATER (get a degree in education instead) but NOT hagwons (they didn’t acknowledge my $1400 TEFL, nor did my recruiter ask for that VERY EXPENSIVE PDF, not even receiving a piece of paper is a rip off). I now work at a private school (a legit private school, NOT the SAME as a hagwon) a they NEVER mentioned it. So if you don’t want to work for EPIK and/or have connections, SAVE yourself the TIME & MONEY. In EPIK, there are people who’ve spent $50 on a TEFL & were accepted. TL;DR: In Korea, an int’l or private school is best, if you have a degree in education, go for the prior, miscellaneous degree + connections, go for the latter. I didn’t get into EPIK, didn’t need it for my hagwon, and my Private School never asked for it.

Hi Tamika, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and share your experience. We're glad that you've been able to teach English in South Korea successfully, but we're disappointed to hear that you feel the course was of low value. We invest heavily to produce the best courses and services we can and will continue to work to improve in all areas, so we appreciate your feedback. In the meantime, we wish you well and invite you to get in touch at any time in the future should you need guidance or assistance seeking other teaching opportunities around the globe. Best Regards - The ITA Team

I started my journey with TEFL at the start of Covid while working full time and going through a tough family situation. The advising team was great until I paid for the course. Once they had my money, I had very limited advisor support throughout and after the course. Because of Covid, I couldn't do in-person practical hours. I managed to get remote practical hours but they missed the deadline. I asked for grace in a tough time and none was given. I was told that I would have to pay for a whole new course and do everything all over again at full price! So not only did I waste my time but also my money.
