“They are about the most expensive auction house around, no wonder Angus is always smiling! Buyer fees are 29.5% if you're there, and 33.5% if you are absent. Once you understand they charge the seller as well, that means more than 50% of the sale price goes to the auction house. Total greed, rip off, what a disappointment, I thought they seemed very nice on the TV, but clearly they're just another bunch of greedy b++tards. Looking at reviews below, it seems they're not actually very professional either!”
“Granted one of my items did make some money but a second lot not so good. It went further downhill from there. Another lot containing group Items was poorly described and mixed up in someone elses lot group ! Total confusion, no sale. On the upcoming auction the same group of items, watches, is listed next to a photo of one watch rather than a group photo which I would expect. This limits interest in that item unless you fully open the listing ! Having already phoned once to complain about the first issue I was now having to complain again regarding the same items for the next auction. In addition another lot is now missing it’s photo altogether which Tania supposedly checked but I confirmed it still wasn’t appearing on the online website.?
In two auctions fishing rods and reels were never listed even though other fishing equipment was being offered. It seems once you complain then they just make things more contentious and inconvenient.
The resolution offered following my second complaint - they can remove all the items from the sale and I can collect them later ! Happy new year to you as well !
Final word of wisdom, always remember to take your own accurate photos of all your sale items, do not rely on the briefly scribbled notes taken down by their valuation team. It’s nothing more than a quick receipt they hand out. See attached picture.
There will be a communication coming soon Angus.”
“We have stayed locally at Thornton le Dale for many years.
Last few years have been regular viewers of The Yorkshire Auction House & love it.
This year we were so fortunate to be there when there was an auction.
We went on viewing day & saw Angus in the background.
Got to chat with his associate Mark.
He was such a genuine Yorkshire man & chatted & happily posed for a photo for me.
Everyone who knows Angus locally has so many positive comments on his support to the community.”
“One of the reviews described them as a jumble sale, and I agree. Items need to be viewed, as the ones I bought were damaged without fair warning in the listing. I sent a few emails to arrange collection, only to turn up and find the items not ready.”
“Compared to other established auctioneers we see regularly on tv, this one comes across more as a bottom end business. The auctioneer's limited patter totally bores, and the little female commentating in a sing-song voice is just an embarrassment.”
“Item received not as described. Rang and spoke to someone said they would get back to me but they didn’t. I sent two emails with photos but they didn’t reply. Quite upset by this item not cheap as I do not make a habit of complaining been buying at auction for years.”
“Generally unprofessional. They often don’t reply to Emails, the warehouse is a terrible mess and didn‘t look as though it had been cleaned lately.
They took absolutely uninspired photos - although we provided them with excellent ones.
The description was very brief and gave no additional information than the picture showed. So unsurprisingly our object sold barely above the lowest figure they has given - though the new value was about 5 times as much and ours was as new.
It took them until 26th Feb to pay out from an auction on 1st Feb. And for this very indifferent service they take 21% plus various sums for insurance, pat test and lot fee. So we received £47.65 from a selling price of £75- absolutely not worth it. I would rather have given it away!
Cannot recommend them at all for selling.”
“I have purchased quite a few items from Ryedale and have been extremely happy with the items, service and very polite staff. Great auction room to visit, Thanks.”
“Unprofessional arrogant and dirty premises. This place is so dirty and unorganised. The auctions are more like jumble sales or car boot. They will sell your items at 20 pounds by time they take letting fee of 4.50 then commission plus vat you receive very little. Only winner is the guy called Angus. Once he has your item he will arrogantly ignore you. No one replies to emails or phone calls. A Thoroughly bad auctioneers. If you are thinking of auctioning your items please try dugglebys in York scarborough and beverley. Their website has a virtual tour of their beautiful Scarborough auction rooms.”
“My experience of Ryedale auctioneers goes back about 2 years. sadly, all bad.
Firstly, i entered a few items of Militaria and was told when dropping them off that I would be contacted regarding cataloguing and to confirm reserves. next thing I knew, they had published the catalogue two days prior to the sale with low guides on my items. I trusted that the reserves were in place but instead they sold my items at about 25% of their value.
Secondly, I bought a gun cleaning kit. When I went to collect it, it was nowhere to be found.
Thirdly, I bought a new part for a land Rover. Again, when I went to collect it, it could not be found.
Finally, I bought two lots of shotgun cartridges and they appeared in my ' won lots' list. I was invoiced later that day for only one lot and the other has disappeared from my ' won lots' list.
Enough! They are completely useless and I will be sending a report to Trading Standards.”
“Most unprofessional auctioneers. Do not return emails or calls
Do not give you an estimate for your items and keep it for months before putting it into a sale. The place they keep your items is dirty and dusty.
I would AVOID”
“I had four items to go into a sale Ryedale auctioneers had these for over six months they never put them into any sale, after multiple contacts they sold one item as they put this item in two sales they charged two lotting fees on top of the commission.
As they did not put any of the other items into a sale, I went to collect these back, they told me they could not find them. I have seen other people have similar experiences with them loosing items put in for sale or paying for items that are not sent. Without doubt the most unprofessional and incompetent Auction company I have ever dealt with, I would advise anyone not to use them.”
“Ryedale Auction Reviews! Really disappointed, And UPSET! AND LET DOWN! by this AUCTION HOUSE, I won a bracelet on the 20th May, Paid on the same day and postage, Was going to be a gift for my Sister who because of Covid! I have not seen for over 18months. I was told it would be sent out on the 26th next day delivery service, NEVER HAD. Now bank holiday weekend! So sorry TO MY SISTER..
Still not HAD, No explanation has been given. emailed, phoned nothing. Very poor service indeed.”
