Since the change over from Stephen Smiths the store has improved and modernised. It's not all good!. The introduction of Pavers is good but it takes up a lot of space and you have to walk through the displays to get to another part of the store. The craft section/ haberdashery has just about gone they have left a small section near the restaurant, I wouldn't have bothered it's that small . Now the restaurant It's Very Bad. Have you been to Tong Garden Centre ? This is the same group and their restaurant is brilliant you put your order in pay for it and a lovely lady / or gentleman brings it to your table . There is also a very good choice of cakes etc. I think it would be a good idea to send the manager of the restaurant to Tong to work there for a while to see how it's done!! I will give Otley a miss for a while.

I bought four bags of Meteor Black garden chippings. We put them out on the garden fabric, and in an hour the chippings had turned white. I assumed that sunlight turns them white, so I threw some water on them and they went black, an hour later they were white again. When I informed the store, the sub-manager's friend said that all chippings have dust on them and that they will gradually go black over a few years. He said that was common knowledge. I told him that he was talking the excrement of a bull, because that isn't common knowledge. And I said that if I buy black chippings, I expect them to be black all day, not white. The sub-normal sub-manager agreed to a refund if we brought the pebbles back. So now we have to dig them up and bag them. No mention of what Otley Garden Centre would now do about mis-representation of a product. The Spaghetti Bolognaise from the Food Hall was tasteless as well. I usually spend over £500 a year at this place, so they won't be getting that any more

Visited the place for the first time since December. Although I can see that the new owners want to revamp the place, it basically looks a mess. The art/craft section (previously a brilliant resource) has been decimated, a lot of what I can only describe as cheap tat is on sale elsewhere & the restaurant menu is a shadow of its former self. I come from London to visit my family in Yorkshire & we've always enjoyed a good lunch there - the Yorkshire puddings being a particular attraction. This is all gone now. Even the restaurant manager approached us when we arrived & apologised for the shortcomings of the new menu, saying it was down to the new owners, not him!

Today 16th November 2022 I visited the garden centre with my elderly disabled mum . We had a look round the Christmas decorations then went for lunch to the resteraunt bearing in mind my mum is a very fussy eater the last time 2months ago we visited and I asked if they could just do a plate of 2 Yorkshire puddings nothing on just dry they were very helpful and did this for a reduced cost . So tried again today only to be told it would cost me £6.95p for them was told by a very rude gentleman that they shouldn't have done this before. He was rude to me my poor mum got upset as no lunch for her . I will never go back to this garden centre again . A jobs worth came to mind . But went to pay at the tills for our Xmas goods and the lady called Trish was a very lovely helpfully lady couldn't have got two more different people with their attitudes in the garden centre.
